High T3 but still feeling rubbish

Hi there,

I recently had some bloods done which show a high T3 but I was still feeling really tired so I increased my NDT by half a grain. I now feel normal again so should I go by the bloods or how I feel? My endo says it's dangerous for my T3 to be this high.

Any help appreciated, thanks, Charlotte

Comtecgirl, Did you leave 24 hours between last dose and blood draw? It's almost unequivocal among doctors that FT3 should remain within range. When my FT3 was over range my endo suggested reducing dose because "We don't really know the long term effects".

Hi there, no I just took my dose as normal in the morning so there were probably about 7 hours in between.

Comtecgirl, it's possible the T3 was still slightly peaking in your system but you're still likely to be a little over range and more so now you have increased dose. Leave 24 hours between last dose and blood draw in future.

You need to weigh up the pros and cons of feeling well today versus potential adverse health outcomes some years down the line. Increased risk of atrial fibrillation and loss of bone density (osteporosis) are commonly cited concerns when FT3 is elevated long term.

If I'm sitting on the sofa all day and sleeping whenever possible that's no life is it? I don't see that I have any choice really 😔

Comtecgirl, check out your ferritin, vitamin D, B12 and folate. Deficiency/low levels are common in hypothyroid patients and can cause musculoskeletal pain, fatigue and low mood similar to hypothyroid symptoms.

My levels of these are fine now and I'm taking: multivitamins with iron; iron; zinc; evening primrose oil; cod liver oil; vitamin D with calcium; Dr Wilson's Adrenal Rebuilder; acidophilus; glucosamine sulphate; garlic; vitamin B complex and sometimes magnesium and selenium.

Thanks Sandy, I really don't know what to do for the best now, I feel so confused and depressed. I know I'm not hyper because I know what that feels like but doctor/endo will say I am because of the results. I can't live my life feeling awful all the time but I don't want to do myself long term damage.

I have been told by my GP that I risk serious damage taking T3 as I am not hypothyroid (according to them). I take 175mcg per day of T3 to keep well. I figured that it was better to risk some potential damage long-term than to not be able to work, think, live or otherwise function.

Yeh I think you're right, Penny. I wasn't living anyway when I was hypo 😊
