9am cortisol test

My Endo has requested a '9am cortisol test' as part of a lot of blood tests. The appointment I have been given is for 9.15am. Does that make any difference? Sorry if this is a stupid question! I suppose fifteen minutes doesn't matter but I wanted to check.

Many thanks

I'm afraid it does matter. In fact, it shouldn't even be 9 o'clock, it should be 8 o'clock. But ask the person that takes your blood if they have a sliding scale of results to allow for time différences. But whatever the result, just know it would have been higher at 8. :)

Thank you greygoose. Following your reply I have changed it to 8.30am which is the earliest they can do but hopefully a bit better. I will still ask about the sliding scale.

Thanks again :-)

I had to be at the hospital first thing but I'd been asked to go the dY before they were expecting me! Big mix up but sorted but I struggled to part with enough blood! Long story but was just before 1 when I was finished. They said they had a sliding scale so fine though I did worry that the stress it caused may not have helped my results.

Sorry, only just seen your reply. That sounds like the most stressful blood test ever - not what you need! That's good to know about the sliding scale. I will definitely make sure I mention it. Thank you.

I think the most stressful bit came later when the consultant dismissed my fears of my result being invalid. I wasn't saying his interpretation was invalid but the stress I was under could well have done! Doctors don't seem to realise that individuals can react badly to just being in a hospital environment! i am pretty sure mine stems from the fact my mum was never well enough to look after me and died when I was 5 after being in and out of hospitals. The last few months there was a stream of doctors and nurses caring for her and couldn't save her and even though for many years I've understood why and that nothing could be done my mind and body cannot get passed it. Strangely the one thing that has never upset me is giving blood-was a blood donor for years and the staff were wonderful and kind and never had this problem before so I feel stress was the cause.

How absolutely awful to have gone through such a trauma and then to have the understandable later effects dismissed. You know your own mind and body and I don't know why doctors can't understand this. Sometimes it seems they have no common sense at all or that they aren't actually human themselves!
