Well, that inspires confidence doesn't it! Fibromaligia, Hi-Po-Thyroidsm ad Leave-O-thyroixin. I wouldn't even know what they were talking about! lol That woman is a disgrace - is a TSH of 500 high??? And she makes a joke about it? It would seem they Don't even see us as sentient beings, just pawns in a game.

I agree and this is a new imformation dvd for gps .I don't think they will ever listen until something tragic happens .Ihave thought that maybe these gps are no good at maths so its easier for them the TSH and LEVO.

lol I would say they're not very good at anything!

So, that is the latest advice, is it? We're going backwards, not forwards! I think tragic things have already happened, but they deny all responsibility because of instructions like these - they were only following the guidlines, it wasn't their fault. It's like water off a ducks back! They'll have to all get it themselves before they even have an inkling of an idea!

At least she talks a lot about symptoms as well as TSH, this is better than my GP ;)

My GP to as long as you are in range you are ok .and if you still don't feel well there must be something else wrong ,and that something else is usually that you are depressed.

I am (or maybe used to be), a sociological researcher. So because I'm used to looking at evidence and figuring out what conclusions you can draw, it frustrates me so much that doctors have no training in in this when looking at our results.

Assuming you have an extra, completely separate disease is the most annoying one! A friends of mine was fobbed of that he he must have sleep apnoea, as well as depression, and not enough exercise. That's THREE explanations well as the the already known congenital thyroid problems. Is so much more likely to just just be ONE problem, that fits all all the facts.

I think it is so sad that people have to suffer ,as i don't think its just thyroid patients that have trouble due to their lack of training. They just don't seem to be able to look at the whole picture.

No, I think it's the policy to treat each major symptom as it's own separate thing, and even worse once you go to a specialist.

At one point during my cancer treatment a consultant was telling me if be back at at work in two weeks - this was after being of of the better part of a year. I was getting really pleased, and then Turned out all she meant was that that my radiation levels would allow that - no consideration of the fact that I was very sick person (and wouldn't even have been seen by her if I wasnt!).

I agree but a TSH cut off of 5.5 to diagnose hypothyroidism ? St. Mary's London cuts off at 4.25 which is why I was diagnosed and levothyroxine started with a TSH of 4.75. I was previously given a 6 mth trial of 25 mcg of levothyroxine due to seriously raised antibodies, which I had to have tested privately. One of the main problems is that blood ranges and consequently treatment depend on where you live, which is inconceivable.
