Spinach advice please......

Hello there peeps. I wonder if I could have some views on this?

I love spinach and for a looooonnnnnng time I've been putting it in my sarnie a, my cooked food, and...oh lawwwwd! Slapping it into my morning smoothies with a few other things to start the day.

At lunchtime I was perusing thyroid.com and I read there that Spinach is a thyroid no no? I feel floored by this. I'm not a vegetarian but I lurrrrrrrv my veg, but have given up loads of them because of whT I read, and I replaced them with other stuff.

Is it true about the spinach? I use it tons....sigghhh.....raw, cooked, made into a hat, blah blah.......I haven't noticed anything worse than usual happening to me, but if spinach does make things worse then I will give it up, whilst crying copiously complete with red nose, pale watery eyes and floor based tantrum..... :)

What can I replace spinach with that is not too expensive but will feed my bod with the same nutrientsetc? Does anyone know?

I feel a bit like this. :(

But in life I'm like this. :)

What are your thoughts please? I would really appreciate help.

Thank you and of course, wishing you well.

Stop, stop, stop! Dry your eyes. lol If you Don't feel the spinach is doing you any harm - if you Don't feel ill after eating it - if you haven't developped a goitre since you started eating it... then carry on eating it.

A load of baloney is talked about goitrogens, mainly by people who Don't understand them. But not all hypos are sensitive to all goitrogens - most hypos aren't sensitive to any at all. They Don't do permenant damage, and the Don't do sneaky damage that you Don't know about. What they do do is impede the up-take of iodine by the gland. But if you Don't rely on your gland for any of your thyroid hormone, then it doesn't matter anyway.

If you want to be sure and certain that there isn't a problem, then stop eating spinach for a couple of weeks, see if you feel any better. If not, start eating it again and see if you feel any worse. If not, keep eating it. The same goes for all those other veggies that you've stopped eating. Try eating them again and see how you feel. If you Don't have any sort of reaction within 24 hours, there no problem. It's really not something to worry about. :)

Thank you GG. I really don't want to do myself any damage but I'm hard pressed to change all the stuff I've been happily munching on for years thinking what a happy healthy little bunny I am. Haha.

I will try a few things out as you said and gauge what happens. Thanks for responding. I do jest but my questions are of a serious nature and I really do want keep myself as well as I can. Ta. :)

Of course they are! And of course you do. And I didn't take it as a joke. I know that some people get worked up in a sweat about goitrogens and tell hypos to stay off them all. And then there are others that deny they exist! The truth is somewhere in between. :)

Everyone seems to think that spinach is good for you, its not, it drains iron from your system and the iron it contains is not accessible.

I eat tons of spinach as well, and I mean TONS! Maybe it has been a contributing factor in making me ill .....

There are some days where I feel the 'lumps' or 'blockage' in my throat is far worse than other days. Would a 'goitrogen' do that?

If it did, it would do it every time you ate the spinache, not just on some days.

glynisrose. Would you please show me a link where it explains this? I would be interested to read about this so I can inform myself fully before taking a final decision? Thank you for your time if you can do this.
