TSH 0.4

Hi, ive been ill for best part of a year. I've just had some blood tests back and it says my tsh is low at 0.4.

Could this indicate hyperthyroidism?

My b12 is also low at 213

I'm desperate to feel better but I'm struggling to get any help from consultants.

Any insight would be hugely appreciated xx

Welcome to the forum, GEM_Lou78.

Are you on thyroid medication? TSH 0.4 is the low end of the range but doesn't indicate hyperthyroidism which would be 0.03 or lower with FT4 and FT3 elevated above ranges.

B12 213 is very low. Supplement 5,000iu methylcobalamin sublingual lozenges, spray or patches for 6-8 weeks to boost levels and then cut down to 1,000mcg daily. You should also take a B complex vitamin.

Have ferritin, vitamin D and folate been tested? Low levels can cause musculoskeletal pain, fatigue and low mood.

Hi, no I'm not on any thyroid meds. I'm under investigation still but so far been diagnosed fibromyalgia and cervical degenerative disc disease.

I'm losing hair, sore scalp, wake up with stiff curled up fingers and feel like I'm walking on sprained ankles. Migraine with aura, pins n needles, muscle twitches, tinnitus and occasionally legs give way and collapse. Frequently need to pee in night and totally exhausted. Also lots of rashes.

It's a puzzle. Awaiting lupus test result and various other vitamin I think they tested vit d.

I've got myself vit b complex tablets in the hope it helps with fatigue.

Should I not worry over the tsh result then?

Thanks for your advice

GEM_Lou78, no TSH 0.4 isn't a worry. TSH doesn't give the full thyroid picture though. Ideally FT4 and FT3 would be tested too. It can be difficult to persuade GP's to test these when TSH is in range but you can order private tests from Blue Horizon and Genova via thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...

Pins and needles can be due to low B12. If your previous test was more than 6 months ago it may be worth asking for another before you start supplementing.

Ok thanks so much for the advice. I see my Gp may 1st so will talk to her about all this then.

My TSH was 0.42 six months after being 5.5. Six months later there were three further tests at six-week intervals, where the TSH wasn't recorded (dropped off the scale?) but rising T3 and T4 were, plus antibodies were checked for the final one.

For me, it was auto-immune thyroiditis.

I think they only tested tsh as no mention of t3 or t4 in the letter x

You also need your antibodies tested, GEM. Anti- TPO and anti- Tg. :)
