Hi, has anyone else had bladder infections through being on levothyroxine or am I worrying un-necessarily ? I am going to doctors later this afternoon and don't know if to say anything or not so wondered if others have had problems and believe there is a link to medication

Feeling fed up
I have repeated urine infections. I don't know of any connection to Levothyroxine as I had these before being diagnosed. I was told I wasn't emptying my bladder properly, so maybe Levo causes urine retention. Will be eager to hear any other sufferers
I haven't had any UTI's since I've been on thyroxine but prior to starting it I did have a run on UTI's. So I can't say that I've noticed a problem that way. Clemmie
Hi, I had about twenty UTI's before getting sorted on NDT. UTIs for me came toward the end of my plethora of thyroid signs and symptoms when I was at my lowest ebb. I undertook every test to find a cause but nothing was found. I was so tired and run down back then. My TSH never rose above 2.5 and ft4 was one number or 2 from the bottom of range, so no help from GP. Ended up taking 18 weeks of antibiotics, but still got another as soon as I came off. After saving for private bloods to discover my ft3 was bottom range also, I ordered NDT on line and saw Dr Skinner who confirmed the diagnosis and prescribed this for me. No surprise, as most of my family are hypo. No help from GP though. In a roundabout way, I'm trying to say that it's more likely that you're not adequately treated and thus your immune system is not able to do its job. I very rarely get UTIs now, only when I'm getting tired and need to check my med levels, when I'm adequately replaced this never happens.
