Hi everyone
Just got my scan date in the post, next Friday the 17th of April.
Is this the dreaded RI or is it something else.
As you can see, I am not sure.
Appreciate any information....or anyone that has had it?
Kind Regards
Brenda

CentralParkLady, it's not radioactive iodine ablatement which destroys your thyroid gland. You're being given a tracer amount of radioactive pertechnetate for a thyroid scan to check thyroid function.
There are no after effects from a Thyroid Scan and you will be able to resume your normal activities immediately.
During your Thyroid Scan, you will be given a small amount of radioactive tracer which is comparable to other imaging procedure’s radiation exposure. The tracers used are designed to not affect the body, merely allow us to visualise the organs better in a non-intrusive way. Most of the tracer is cleared from the body by excretion in a matter of hours, and the remainder breaks down (decays) relatively quickly, usually within 24 hours.
The risk of any side effects from any Nuclear Medicine procedure is extremely low and experts feel that the risk to your health is far outweighed by the benefits from your test.
