A Tory good guy?
Do hope he manages to talk some sense into some others. Thanks for posting.
A very interesting article, but if Dr McShane is sincere, and not merely window-dressing, his view will entail a huge paradigm shift within the structure of the NHS, its funding, and the whole medical profession. Capitalism, in the shape of Big Pharma, will fight against this tooth and nail, which would be ironic, given Mr Tredinnick's politics.
I tend to assess complementary therapies on a case-by-case basis - some seem sensible to me, others do not. I must say I don't exactly have much patience for Mr Tredinnick's recent proposal for astrological services on the NHS.
As for Tredinnick being alone among Tory MPs in his views on CM, I don't really know, but I have noticed that a number of doctors who express 'maverick' views from within the NHS (e.g. Malcom Kendrick), or who have left the NHS to set up in private practice precisely so they can have more clinical independence, tend to be right of centre in their personal politics (where it's possible to judge).
Well, if astrology makes a person feel better ... is it more of a waste of money than this year's flu jab? Neither would be my choice, but still.
Like you, I avoid the flu jab. I just think there has to be some reasonable evidence that a therapy, whether conventional or complementary, works before a lot of public money is spent, though I agree completely with the author's criticisms of RCTs and so-called evidence-based medicine. Other forms of evidence, like patient experience, should be taken into consideration. But how on earth - or in space - could the quality or efficacy of an astrologer be assessed? The mind boggles.

" thusly" ?
Treepie, some editing of posts took place for experiments on formatting, so some of the posts no longer make sense. Sorry about that.
It was AussieNeil not you Bean.
Oh I see, you're referring to the link I gave.
That's right, to be honest while it is interesting I am too lazy to bother and will forget and have to keep referring back.
Anyway ,I think capitals etc in emails are thought to be rude. Mind you on the PC I often forget to switch caps on or off and not looking at the screen have to be rude, apologise at the end or repeat the piece. There is probably a quicker way but I am not tech savvy and life is to short to bother finding out .
Saw GP today as expected would not increase T4 ,medical insurance issue as T4 and T3 were in upper range the last time I saw him ,day before he had a heart attack! Hope it was not me!
At least he is referring me privately to an endo who he knows prescribes NDT.
The GP had cold feet in a hot room and said the Beta blockers were the cause.
I had cold feet etc before beta blockers, now legs warm feet cold so maybe the beta blockers are to blame.
He's my MP - & he's hopeless!!
No such thing!!
I've been mulling over this. Possibly only Stephen Dorrell, but it's probably a question of degree of awfulness!
