This may seem like a strange question but during my routine eye test they identified the start of possible glaucoma and this has also happened to a dear friend of mine who has been recently diagnosed with hyperthyroidism

Thyroid problems and glaucoma. Is there a link?
There have been several threads on glaucoma and thyroid here over the years.
I suggest a search of the group, such as this:

Yes, there is a connection. Type into your computer search engine, hypothyroidism, glaucoma connection.
It's interesting if there is a connection (I haven't read those links yet - but will do now). I'm undiagnosed (by the NHS) hypothyroid - now on NDT thanks to Dr P. A few years ago, my regular optician's check-up revealed high pressure in my eyes - which can often lead to glaucoma. I guess it's this high pressure (called ocular hypertension) which they've identified in you, Karen? Anyway, there's no history of glaucoma in my family so it was a mystery where it came from.
They put me on eye drops to reduce the pressure and monitor me every year with a visual fields test to make sure my peripheral vision is still OK. So far, they've said it is OK so I don't have glaucoma - I'm just considered at risk from it. So please don't worry too much about this, Karen. If they have you on eye drops to reduce the pressure you should be fine - it may never develop into glaucoma at all, so I'm told.
I'll go and read up on it now - to see what the connection might be ...
