An International Problem

I find all this SO depressing, why is it that doctors are so much 'under the thumb' of Big Pharma - and how is it that their professional organisations are allowing this to happen? Actually I am not depressed I am angry, angry, angry.
Couldn't agree more marram.
You're absolutely right, marram. But it's all about money. Doctors used to be seen as up-standing members of the community - they are on the list of people that can sign your passport photo to prove that you are you, along with teachers and clergymen. Now, they appear to be just as money-grabbing as everyone else! It is depressing, but also enfuriating!
The inferior standard of treatment is a worldwide problem. PR
Thank you for posting this. I'm absolutely stunned and appalled at how bad things are. I always thought of Scandinavian countries as havens of democracy where people are properly looked after. So much for stereotypes!
Is there any part of the world where official thyroid treatment actually works for the benefit of the patient? Does anyone know?
I am in Sweden and my doctor rocks.
I guess I have been lucky in finding a doctor who listened and then treated my symptoms.
The way I discovered T3 treatment though was because a friend gave me an article that was in a Swedish health magazine about a woman who had started taking it and it changed her life. Reading her life story it was like reading about myself, every little detail. I changed doctors immediately and took that article to my new/ now doc. That is how everything started.
I think more doctors here in Sweden are more open than in the UK- having lived in both for a substantial amount of time.
Was interesting to read about the other Scandinavian countries but I am not 100% sure that all the facts are correct as there were some in the Sweden one that were a little off.
Have a great weekend everyone!
I'm sure you're right. But it's difficult to get détails 100% right on any subject. However, the over-all picture is just as depressing as it is in England and here in France. The conclusion is, not everybody is getting the treatment they should have.
Glad to hear that you found yourself a good doctor, anyway. Treat her/him well! S/he's Worth a fortune!
Hey kiwifruit! I moved to Stockholm a year ago and haven't been to endos yet as I'm relying on my NDT stash but it I am running out soon. My endocrinologist in Estonia is as traditional as you can imagine. She's looking only at my TSH (not even testing T3 and T4 when I ask) which is suddenly "magically" in ideal range due to my secret NDT consumption (she ofc assumes that it's levothyroxine doing all the nice work). There's nothing I want more than have a doctor who could understand me and test me for all the stuff I ask for + write me official subscriptions to T4 AND T3. If there's any way you could recommend me a doctor, it would be greatly appreciated
