I had instructions off one of our kind admins, which I can't find now on how to edit. Why does it have to be so complicated? I have clicked on the wrong thing and lost replies to posts and messages. Anyone else, or am I just stupid??
I'm sure the system for editing is fine Louise, I just can't get my head around it! When/why did it change? I use a tablet and I would just move the curser to where my typo was and change it. I can't remember what to click on. I've lost replies to posts, and a long message the other day. I admit I have no idea how to edit a message. I just keep apologising for my typos. It was never like this before I have real difficulties following instructions, and I naturally make a lot of mistakes in recent years. We all know why! I can remember sitting for 20 minutes trying to divide something by 10, and I honestly couldn't do it!
It's not just my tablet, it's if you use a phone too Louise, you have to click on something on the page now to edit your mistakes rather than just using your device like you would in an email or text message. For weeks I admit I've been wondering what was going on because I couldn't get my cursor to go back into the text, I had no idea you have to cluck on something now. I think I'll just keep apologising for typos as I have been.
Been there, done that with my own rinky-dink tablet! Whenever I get the urge to post "just one itty-bitty thing" from my tablet, I regret it. As you discovered, many editing features on forums just don't show up or get botched on a touch screen.
While there is nothing more relaxing than spending a few hours tablet surfing or writing in bed, the amount of half-completed, unedited "junk" posts I was generating out in cyberspace was starting to get embarrassing. So I decided to save the writing for my desktop and save my tablet for surfing.
No, you're not stupid. I have to do things regularly to remember.
When you finish your post you will see next to the red Reply button - Recommended next - then the third along is a brand new sign I have only seen today (a square box with a squiggle). It's no wonder there's confusion. You press on this Box and these appear 'Edit' 'Delete' or 'Report. Press on which one you want.
Things keep getting altered. You just get used to one thing and another thing is substituted.
Shaws thanks for this, but I'm not trying to be awkward or anything, I'm just not getting it, and why does it have to be like this. One thing I have clicked on made me lose what I had written and took me back to the veginig. On a message I clicked in something because my typos were shocking, and I just lost the lot and returned to a list of all my messages. It makes me very wary to write anything to be honest. I hate having to moan, but I don't cope with changes, and I'm sure there are a lot of people on this forum who are the same
Shaws, I think what Heloise is saying (sorry if I've got it wrong) is that she is trying to edit a post on her tablet/phone before she has even submitted it. It isn't editing after posting that she has problems with. I've seen a lot of people saying something like "sorry I can't get the cursor to move to edit my post, I'm using a phone".
I don't use phones or tablets for posting, so I can't explain the process myself. But something must have changed recently because people never used to comment about this problem.
Hi Humanbean, yes I didn't make clear it's editing typos before I submit my post/message. My typis are absolutely shocking and I want to correct everything first. My cursor for weeks now just won't go back into the text. If there is a new system on the page to enable you to do this, then I've totally missed it. I thought there was something wrong with my tablet, but it was only this site. So I tried with my phone too and it's the same thing. If the technical people have dreamt this new silly way of editing, I can't help feeling they are over designing or whatever the word is for the sake of it. When you're chronically deprived of sleep, and have brain fog it can be really hard to get your head around these constant changes. I'm very aware I'm not contributing as much as I used to, because to me the site has become over complicated.
Hi Shaws, it's impossible to use a PC where I live as the broadband is shocking, it's at a snails pace here in the sticks! Well I've just checked and I can still now move my cursor, so pleased!
Thanks for your help, I'm sure the others who have had this problem are relieved too! Xx
If you've typed things in and not 'submitted' the reply, you can take the cursor back to change anything by moving the cursor back on the word or sentence you want to delete. If you've already pressed the red submit button you cannot change anything so to either change or delete when you see Red 'REPLY' you have to go along to the end where there is a small box on the right-hand side and click on box and the Edit etc appears. I hope it works this time.
Hi Shaws, that's just it, my cursor won't budge. I can't get back into the text to correct my mistakes. It was never like this before, and it's been going on for some time now. At the bottom of all my replies I've been apologising for my mistakes. It's before I submit and click on the reply button.
Helcaster, I don't think it's you. I've seen several posts where people using phones/tablets can't edit before they submit. Please contact HU via the Help button on the green HU banner.
Hi Clutter, since my post a miracle has happened, believe or not my cursor is no longer stuck at the end of the text. I wrote a message an hour ago, and I was able to correct my typos, and I did in this response too. Someone must have been seeing this and changed something! Thank goodness! Business as usual has resumed
Using an iPad i found that I was unable to correct anything without deleting all that came after the error but it now seems to work on the pad as well! Mind you will miss some amusing typos.
I know Treepie! After a long post there was nothing worse than deleting and then forgetting what you wanted to write Yes some of the typos are funny, and to be honest we're like a big family here so I would know people would just work it out. I am getting to the stage where I don't get so embarrassed now at my mistakes!
