Thanks PR4NOW, interesting read. It's just a pity that when they do studies like this, they tie the research subjects to such small doses of a drug that could do a lot of good (in order to appease the gods of TSH, I guess :)). The average amount of armour given was just 92mg - one and a half grains. Those on the highest dose were apparently only on 2 grains. Frustrating. It's almost as if they want these studies to fail...

This is valuable information. Thanks for highlighting it for us. Amongst other things it shows T4 did not work well for 150 out of 450 patients (one third of people) and that introducing some T3 gave improvements for 78% of those people (4 out of 5 who struggled on T4 only). Best data on the scale of the problem that I have seen in a while. Thank you.

I thought this study interesting and quite well done. My only caveat is that the patients are probably a mixed bag having residual thyroid activity anywhere from none to some. If thyroid size (working) was also brought in, I think the percentage of people having little or no working gland preferring NDT would be even greater. Nonetheless nearly 80% preference overall (and lasting - opposing a placebo idea) is very indicative.

Diogenes, he has 15 minutes scheduled to present at the upcoming AACE conference. It will be interesting to see the reaction. He had a difficult time getting the study published, a problem I know you well understand. PR

Thanks for posting very interesting paper ,I am going to print it out and take to my next hospital appointment. As i read that a Endo there was considering doing a T3 trial maybe they will consider Ndt as well wish full thinking .

A very interesting study.....Thanks for posting.

I am 73 yrs old with thyroid in tact. I'm fortunate this year to have 10 mcgs T3 prescribed by my NHS Endo and who has confirmed that he is willing to monitor me on Armour thyroid.(though can't prescribe it)

I have ditched T4 and am now on 1grain Armour / 10mcgs T3 This is of my own doing.

However I'm hoping if the good feeling continues, that I have ditched T4 for ever.

Reading this study .....the way I'm now being treated makes me wonder if the tide might gradually be turning as there is continual growing evidence that many patients are benefiting from NDT and T3 treatment. This can't be rejected for ever.

They can't ignore nearly 20,000 people here seeking help to regain their health.

Very interesting - thanks for posting.

I much prefer ThyroidS to levothyroxine which never made me feel properly better after 3 years of persistence and a TSH dropping down through a huge range to within range, <1 and >0.5, then <0.5 .... all felt rubbish.
