Snowy, the endocrinologist may be checking for recurrence but as you haven't had regular thyroglobulin and thyroglobulin antibody tests to use as cancer markers he has no markers to compare.

It was my oncologist who arranged for radioactive iodine ablatement (RAI) with the nuclear medicine dept and for the follow up RAI whole body scan 5/6 months later.

Snowy, the RAI didn't make me feel any different but I had to stop meds, T4 for 4 weeks and T3 for 2 weeks to let TSH rise >30 so was very hypothyroid. The initial RAI was almost 3 months after thyroidectomy to kill off any stray cancer cells and the follow up RAI at a much lower dose was to check whether there was iodine uptake which would have meant there were still thyroid cells.

I'm not saying you will need RAI but it is a possibility and certainly the low dose whole body scan will determine whether or not you have any thyroid cells.

Snowy, it may not happen, it is just a possible reason for referring you to the oncologist. If it's the same oncologist or hospital where your papillary thyCa was treated they may even have tested Tg and TgAb and will have the historical records and can just do a blood draw to compare levels.

It's a different hospital. Endo requested all paper from back then, specialist who did operation referred me to get eblation as this was what he recommended but specialist refused cause of my age and that was that

Maybe the endo doesn't know what to do so has referred you to someone who might. It gets you out of his clinic for a while!
