Hi my docs are a pain, my tsh is currently 2 but I'm still tired and foggy headed and still have swelling in my hands and face, doc refused to up my dose of thyroxine as my blood pressure was a bit higher than it should have been. Blood pressure is good now but how do I push for a medication increase???

Anjeleena, Scroll down to Guidelines and Treatment Options to read Dr. A. Toft's comments to Pulse Magazine about TSH needing to be 1.0 or lower thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/about_...
Email louise.warvill@thyroiduk.org.uk if you want a copy of the article to show your GP.
I'm off to the doctors for a medication review at 3.30 and shall ask about an increase in my thyroxine if my blood test shows me to be around 2 again, it's been that way the last 3 times, I would like to see my recent test results but am too nervous to ask for copies incase I offend the doctor, my consultants for other problems have always been reasonable but I always seem to have problems with the GP's, also whenever I've been tested it has been after my morning dosage of levothyroxine
Anjeleena, there's no reason why your GP should be offended if you ask for your results. You aren't obliged to explain why you want them but it doesn't hurt to say you want them for your own records.
We advise taking thyroid meds after blood tests as the recently ingested medication peaks in your serum and doesn't normalise for 6 hours after ingestion.
Thankyou for the info. Will wait til after my next blood test to take my meds. I will certainly ask for my results today as I know they had my results passed to doc last time and they just said no problem, I don't beleive they are paying much attention to anything other than tsh and my iron level
Anjeleena, GPs usually review results within a couple of days of receiving them and they should then be available to you. If GP doesn't print them off for you ask the receptionist. If receptionist doesn't know whether she is allowed to ask to speak to the practice manager.
It's not uncommon for GPs to only request TSH. It's not satisfactory in my opinion as FT4 and FT3 give a fuller picture.
Iron needs to be taken at least 4 hours away from Levothyroxine as it prevents absorption. 500mg-1,000mg vitamin C taken with each dose of iron aids absorption of iron and mitigates constipation.
I have no idea what my last iron levels were or any of the others, I've been reading on here about b12 and others, I would like to get my results and post them here as you guys seem to know a damn sight more than my GP, my urologist has helped me a great deal with things he doesn't "have " to deal with, shame he's not an endocrinologist!!!
If you are on levo it is salts and pushes up your blood pressure. I suggest you buy some meds for yourself and add to your dosage.
P S Your doctor is paid by YOU and if he /she takes offence so what? Its YOUR health not theirs!!
