Has anyone seen the endocrinologist Dr Karavitaki she is based at the Churchill Oxford. I'm so nervous about my first appointment. Spent 3 years getting no where with my gp. Can Endo's help with Auto immune thyroid issues
Hashimotos: Has anyone seen the endocrinologist... - Thyroid UK
Hashimotos
I think the best thing is to type Hashimotos into the Search Box on the Green Bar at the top and read what comes up.
Am afraid most of us are self taught There are excellent websites and books to learn from and if you like I can post them for you or they will appear in the posts I have suggested
Docs know very little about treating auto-immune issues and I have not read of many Endos who do either.
I would be inclined to follow the posters here that resonate with you....
I have Hashimotos along with Crohns - so am aware that these conditions all start with gut health. That is the first thing to correct....
Also lots of vitamins and minerals....not sure where you are with your journey .....so will check out your other posts...
Sorry if I sound unhelpful - it is not intended ....
Thank you, no that's good advice. Just feel so alone with this. Doctors & family expect you to be fine once on thyroxine, but I still feel terrible. My tsh keeps jumping from high to low. Just wanted to know if an endo will be any help but I agree with you I think it will me that helps in the long run. Have been gluton free for a year xx
This is a link to a site which members have said is useful:-
May I suggest you read and learn as much as possible before your appointment and make a list of good questions - you will soon know if the Endo is a good one or not by her response....
You are doing a lot to help yourself by being gluten free , Do read the book suggested in the link shaws has given you. I found it an excellent read. Also her Newsletters are good and keeps us up to date - and ahead of the Docs in some cases
Good luck
From my own experience when you go to the thyroid clinic at the Churchill you don't usually get to see the actual consultant and end up seeing someone different every time you go which isn't very helpful as you have to start from the beginning each time. I have Graves which is autoimmune and didn't find them very helpful to be honest but as I said that's my own personal experience and it might be totally different for you. Good luck & let me know how you get on. x
When I was 'under the doctor' ;O) for my thyroid about 8 years ago Churchill was supposed to be the best local thyroid clinic. Course, they then sent me to Churchill's ENT clinic, 'cos I was presenting with a goitre :O( . So I've no idea if I ever went near anybody connected with the 'good' clinic or not. But it did used to have a good rep.
Go well-informed. I didn't. I have never been able to recover the ground lost by that. If I'd had this forum to turn to then (and had known I was going to need it sooo bad) I maybe wouldn't have lost so many years to this bally condition.
