I am sorry you haven't had a response yet. Your question has now been pushed off the page and more members are hypo than hyper. This is a link which I hope is helpful:-
When I was diagnosed my GP said I was 'very hyper with antibodies' (Graves ) and it sounded like the antibodies were pretty much the deciding factor in the diagnosis. Hopefully your GP will do something.
Do you know what your other results - T3, T4 and TSH are and has your GP ever tested your thyroid?
I have been to my gp many times recently suggesting my thyroid was out of balance he said test results were all fine. so I asked to see my medical records and values, the nhs TSH test said last year I was 4 tsh now i am 5.58 thats why I have paid for private tests because he isnt helping me get better.
Obviously he is sticking to the 'within the range' way of working and you can see from the number of people who write in the that method just doesn't suit everyone - I know I feel better when my TSH is really low in the range.
What about saying to him quite firmly ' I know I am within the range but the range is extremely wide and as I feel quite ill I am clearly not at my optimal point within the range and I want you to treat me now' - although at 5.58 you must be out of the range now .
I can't see how he can argue with your antibody results though and if he doesn't approve of private testing (which I bet he won't!) then he will just have to organise his own antibody tests. Good luck with it all.
As you have high in range anti-bodies - it does suggest you have Hashimotos - the auto-immune thyroid condition - also known as Auto-immune thyroiditis. Even if the FT4 FT3 TSH are in range it is good to start with a low dose of T4 to support the thyroid whilst under attack from the anti-bodies.
When I was diagnosed in 2005 all the tests were in range - except like you the anti-bodies were high. I was started on 25mcg immediately. I also had a scan which revealed lots of nodes - so you could ask for one which would confirm the diagnosis - or at least give more evidence to support your cause
Hashimotos is the most common form of thyroid illness throughout the world - over 90%. Like other auto-immune issues - they invariably start with an unhealthy gut. It is here that your immune system lies and quickly swings into action when the gut lining in breached ( often caused by gluten and other irritants ) which cling to the gut wall - setting up inflammation and causing small holes through which molecules can escape. Gut permeability is quite common and we are not aware it is happening for many years....
Obviously your thyroid is beginning to struggle as the TSH is increasing. It is also too high.
How are the other results ? B12 - Ferritin - VitD - Iron - Folate. All need to be done and will improve your health greatly when they are OPTIMAL.....Do NOT accept normal - make sure you see the results and post here for others to comment in a new post....
Wishing you wellness - it can be a long journey - but one worth taking. Just keep reading and learning so you are one step ahead of your GP - as its important to take control of your own health in order to be well - really well.
