A positive post that hopefully will encourage ...

I really do understand how tough it is for many people with hypothyroidism who are battling the NHS to be treated. There is a huge amount of support on here and long may that continue. We are so fortunate that many users on here have an amazing amount of knowledge and experience that benefits us all.

After 6 years with hypothyroidism I have now turned a corner with my health and it feels so wonderful. The biggest change I made was to have a full mouthful of mercury-containing amalgam fillings removed and replaced. It's taken 6 months with a couple of blips along the way but I truly believe that for me this was the right thing to do.

Obviously I appreciate this is an expensive course of action but I've had to wait years until I could afford it. It may not necessarily work for everyone either.

You have to believe that you will regain your health by having a positive attitude. Don't give up, educate yourself and don't rely on the NHS.

It's nice to hear stories of what helps people recover. I also have a mouthful of mercury and have often wondered if removing them would help.

rosetrees - every tooth was filled and had been since I was a young child treated by 'drill and fill' dentists. The fillings were huge, literally slapped on and not tidied up so my mouth looked dreadful.

It's obviously important to choose your dentist carefully!

Good to hear! What was the process? Did you test for mercury at the beginning? Any advice on finding someone qualified to carry out the work? Thanks.

Holistic dentist carried out a test that determines the electro conductivity (electrical activity) of each amalgam filling which showed high readings.

There was a pre-treatment regime followed by another during treatment. One thing that I should have done was to have paid more attention to research on chelation and possibly using a Naturopath. I did come across some pretty extreme chelation protocols though.

As regards choosing a dentist, best thing to do is take a look here

followed by asking for recommendations and here is a good place to ask! I'm in the South and happy to pass on details by PM.

Dentist must know what they are doing and use specialist equipment, for example, a rubber dam, filtration machine to pick up any particles etc. I've read that some patients are given oxygen.

There's a few people on here who've had amalgams removed so hopefully they'll contribute to the thread.

Thank you for highlighting this. Shame that the cost of this procedure is quite high, otherwise I'd look into this.

Hi cinnamon_girl. I'm currently looking into this at the moment and getting recommendations. Where did you have yours done, and would you recommend it? Did you have any problems afterward - you mention a couple of blips?

Not what you're looking for?
