My question is....i feel like i am having rather distressing epsiodes of my body being flooded with hormones...my neck and face ache....i have lost weight..thats ok.....was advised to reduce levo by 25mcg...i decided to abandon any for a few days ..it felt instictive....i think i have been over for months and months..how long until i will stabilise.....do you think..and what do folks regard as a maintenance of levo in the meantime.....I am 62...hypo all my life..had rai at 27 and have done really well....i have heard of spurting as the thyroid finally dies it becomes hyper so to speak.....so i am not brilliant with all the levels etc..just know my TSh was 0.12 and free t4...26.4....thank you so much...

HI

this happened to me twice in the past 3 years - I was overmedicated with Levo. (I haven't had RAI). Within a couple of days of stopping the Levo completely, I began to feel better. I had to stop it completely (with the advice of my doctor)as the first time it happened we just cut my dose and I continued to be ill for weeks. My throat and neck hurt too and my bladder was very overactive and I felt SO ill. Have since found out I can't tolerate Levo at all and am doing much better on T3 only.

Good luck

Hi daggers just read your post I've been overmedicated for over 3 months now on reduced dose levo how long did it take for your bladder to settle down. Having awful time with overactive bladder only since being overmedicated

Hiya. My best advice to you is to STOP the Levo completely for a week and see if your bladder calms down. Mine did quite quickly once I stopped it.

My GP was agreeable for me to try this as Levo has such a long half-life in your system.

The first time I got overmedicated, we didn't link it to my Levo and my urologist put it all down to 'irritable bladder' which he said it would take 3 months to calm down. He prescribed meds to stop me peeing every 20 mins but they made my mouth awfully dry.

I asked for a blood test and - overmedicated - my Levo was cut in half (from 100 to 50) and over a few weeks, things improved.

This time, in May, it happened AGAIN and I recognised the signs of overmeds. My GP was OK about stopping it for 10 days, and I got better within 3-4 days, bladder calming right down. I believe the Levo was what was irritating the bladder. Now I have found I can't take any form of T4 - have a reaction to all makes of it, and endo has given me T3 only trial.

However, I have discovered that I can't use Mercury Pharma products (T4 or T3) at all because I have a reaction to the acacia powder in their products. So it might even be that thats contributing to the bladder irritation.

Really, I know how awful it is and I can only say stop the meds for a bit and see what happens. I think you will know quite quickly.

Keep in touch

Also for consideration, I have found that the acacia powder in a lot of the products reacts very badly with my system..... can you get a T3 trial - its making me feel much more myself after years!

I am so sorry that you are feeling so awful, I do understand as thats how I was. Im sure it was overmedication for me, plus some intolerance to the drug. The gynae I saw gave me Vagifem pessaries as she thought it might help as everything gets thinner apparently during/post menopause and I think that was probably quite helpful. I take DMannose to try to make sure I don't get water infections too. they tried me on Oxybutynin to stop the peeing at one stage, but that gave me an awful dry mouth. And some Diazepam for emergencies, so at least the odd night I was able to sleep....

I KNOW what you mean about the sun, I used to love it but now I can't stand it and have to take a hat everywhere! Its the Levo isn't it

Hope it calms down for you as at least you will know then.

Daffers, can you explain to me about T3..i have gone now super hypo....eek.....and re-introducing Levo.....didnt think my levels would go so hypo after 9 days..even my doc was freaked out......and my mouth is throbbing again.....how are you ?

Hi Jackie sorry for delay but been a bit under the weather again. Sorry you feel so awful, but what you are saying sounds familiar!

I found (after an episode of being over medicated on T4) that I was unable to tolerate any of the Levo available here. This I now understand could have been either a) allergy to acacia powder or other filler. b) developed intolerance to T4 over years which means it's not converting to T3 properly and is just collecting or pooling in my system, which causes the 'toxic' over med symptoms.

My only option has become T3 only because it's the active hormone and doesn't need converting. Goes straight in but having to use it in small doses and build up slowly. Am having to cope with hypo symptoms while I build dose up over a few weeks. Keep having a wobble and being tempted to add Levo but managed to resist. Also have found that I am getting horrid heart racing etc. but think this is excess stomach acid! I of corse was blaming the t3.

So am sticking with T3 and taking Omeprazole for acid.

How are you now ?

Andrea
