Of questions, that i want him to answer i dont want to be fobbed off yet again
Hi all another question, is there a connection ... - Thyroid UK
Hi all another question, is there a connection between hypo and having no knee reflex i am seeing my endo on tuesday and have loads
There is certainly a connection with having no ankle reflexes. It's called Woltman's Sign. My GP had never heard of it and nor had the neurologist who remarked on it and then diagnosed me with sciatica!
Hi thanks for the info, have just looked it up on the internet, i learn something new everyday about this horrible illness is there anything that the thyroid does not have any influence on?
This is a sign of b12 deficiency, you need to ask him to test you for Pernicious Anaemia.
Scroll down to Subacute combined Degeneration of Spinal Cord (SACD):
"In mildly affected cases the activity of the knee and ankle jerks may be either increased or diminished but in severely affected patients these reflexes are always decreased or absent."
This is serious neuro damage, don't be fobbed off you need the tests. Have a look at this website:
And the UK guidelines:
bcshguidelines.com/document...
Get copies of any and all test results, being in the normal range does not rule out this condition.

I have no reflexes as at all - legs or arms - but have been diagnosed with CMT1A (Charcot-Marie-Tooth) which is a progressive neurological disease (peripheral neuropathy).
This is probably stating the obvious, but have you had your B12 checked? Docs are happy to diagnose people with all sorts of neuro conditions rather than test for, diagnose and treat a simple vitamin deficiency.

Thanks for replying. I have been genetically tested now, so definitely have CMT1A. My doctor did a full blood count last time, so I think that is covered.
OK. Just bear in mind an FBC is not sufficient, you need B12 and folate tested as a minimum, and possibly also MMA, homocysteine, active B12, anti-parietal cells, and anti-intrinsic factor. Since CMT1A and B12d are both demyelinating conditions, the symptoms would be similar, so if you were to go on to develop B12 deficiency as well you may not realise and just attribute it to your existing condition. Just something to bear in mind.

Thank you. I will make a note of that and ask at my next blood test (lacking iron at the moment so going back for that to be checked again!)
