Hi I take it permanently at the right dose and then up it a bit if I feel the usual symptoms, I have a problem with Sjogrens and Lupus which has caused bladder problems.. Since being on this, I have cut down my infections by three quarters, in fact the last time I had one was due to a delay in my repeat order arriving. Far more effective than cranberry. Don't skimp on the dose. It is a safe style of product to use, I notice it has even been written about in a teaching hospital setting, as it is suitable for patients on certain types of anticoagulants where as not so with cranberry! I had a doctor suggest it to me also!!! MaryF

Thanks Mary I've an infection at the moment just fin an antibotic but it's still there. I don't want to go on another antibotic caus it's causing havoc with my thyroid medication. How often should I take it each day to get rid of the infection I've ordered the powder. And do I stay on it if it clears it up thanks.

I take the capsules various makes.. I take three lots of three a day, does it have dosage instructions on the powders.. you need to split the dose, and keep drinking water....If not this appears to be a reasonable guide:

Introduction

D-mannose has been used to great effect against urinary tract and kidney infections, and cystitis symptoms since the 1970’s, but the mechanism by which this simple sugar worked was until relatively recently not fully understood. Sweet Cures® of York who have been producing Waterfall D-Mannose® since 2003, have shed a lot of light on the issue, and their customers have found that pure natural mannose is not only useful against almost all types of bladder infections, but is also useful against both interstitial cystitis and painful bladder syndrome - both conditions that often respond better, in the long term, to natural remedies.

How to Use

D-Mannose is simple to use - the powder dissolves easily and it can be taken in a drink. About 2-3 grams is an effective dose for most people for bladder support and maintenance - that's about a level-heaped teaspoon of the powder, or 2-3 x 1g tablets. It is almost flavourless and pleasant to take in a drink. As a simple sugar that is scarcely metabolised, (it ends up in the urine) it is also entirely harmless both for adults and babies. It should be taken with a decent sized drink of water. The dose should be repeated about every 3 hours until complete relief is found, and then gradually reduced over a few days to a maintenance level. For the first few nights after starting this natural remedy, a dose should be taken about halfway through the normal night's sleep. Even when better, most people prefer to take a just-before-sleep maintenance dose for ongoing bladder health.

Alkalise the body

Taking cranberry juice/tablets or orange juice, by acidifying the urine and thus feeding the bacteria that cause many urine infections is counterproductive. Also, the acidic form of vitamin C, (ascorbic acid) does the same. An alkalising diet is of benefit in most cases.

Mechanism

D-mannose is one of only three naturally occurring aldohexoses that have so far been found in nature. Galactose and glucose are the other two. As a simple sugar, mannose is harmless to the body, and in fact has many beneficial properties. It is absorbed through the small intestine and travels through the bloodstream and liver to the kidneys where most of it gets into the urine within an hour of consumption, with the remainder getting into the urine within the next two hours. This is why it should be used at least every three hours to fight acute infections.

By interfering with the attachment mechanism of pathogens such as bacteria, mannose prevents their adhesion, and has been widely reported to work against antibiotic-resistant septicaemia and antibiotic-resistant urinary tract infections.

The mannose molecules basically fill the receptor points in the bacterial fimbria - the little hair-like projections that bacteria can develop in challenging environments like the urine.

Molecular attraction

The bacteria normally use these projections to stick to tissue cells and to each other when they form colonies. When the receptors are already filled with mannose, the bacteria can't stick and thus get flushed away during normal urination.

Also, since mannose is highly effective against the majority of urinary tract infections, it prevents the progressive development of more serious symptoms that occur when antibiotics are ineffective at preventing UTI recurrence.

D-Mannose is also a natural anti-inflammatory, and thus quickly alleviates bladder and urinary tract inflammation, generally bringing fast relief to sufferers, and by helping urine to flow naturally again, can prevent reflux of infected urine back up the ureters to the kidneys.

search around on Amazon, but check how long for the delivery before you buy as some take longer to arrive! And annoyingly so, no my branch does not, wish they did! MaryFx

I bought it straight from the maker they're a British company and it's been sent by courier so hopefully I'll get it soon if it works I'll change to tabs and keep them stocked up. Do you take thyroid meds if so do you take the waterfall the same time I take my meds at night but was reading that it's good to take the waterfall at night and was wondering if it will interfere with my eltroxin. Sorry for all the questions Mary I just want to get well without taking those rotton antibotics. Mary

I take mine all day long split into three doses and an extra during the night if very ill as I have a chronic problem! I am also now allergic to antibiotics so when taking them have vile reactions. I do take my other medications an hour afterwards.. I can't see that they would effect anything..MaryFx

It worked brilliantly for me when I had cystitis from hypothyroidism. It saved me from antibiotics. I had to take it every day until my T3 level improved though.

I was sceptical but it really works. I used to get Cystitis after sex. I take 2 of the pills afterwards. Have been doing so for 2 years now with no reccurance.

It only works if you are probe to the e.coli bug though.

Hi

Yes, me again, and I have been taking D mannose daily now for 2 years as a prevention from frequent UTIs and cystitis. I also have 4 friends who swear by it as it has kept us mostly UTI free and we all used to get several. I told my endo I was taking it but he didn't seem too impressed....I get mine from waterfall. Have you tried it?
