thyroid
I am new at all this so forgive me for asking but which bit is problematic? Is it directly under your chin or lower down? For me my lump is pretty much where the little hollow is in the middle. I dont have that hollow at all it is a lump and then it extends to the right of my thryoid. So where my problem is looks fine on your pic but that doesnt mean that for you the problem is something different to mine. I am waiting for an ultrasound which is due in a couple of weeks but my bloods are showing slightly hypo.
When I was sent to a rheumy (turned out to be carpal tunnel) he looked at me and said 'oooh your thyroid's puffy' and I was diagnosed shortly after. Here I am years later and it's still bliddy puffy! I had a goitre as well which pressed against my windpipe but thankfully reduced after starting treatment. Yours may be 'puffy' too anbuma but I wouldn't really like to offer an opinion as the camera angle's wrong, can you take another pic with your chin up & looking straight ahead instead of looking down?
ok I know this isn't god angle btu left side is puffy/swollen all way up.there is a lump under jaw and larynx enlarged (maybe goiter).will tyr and find another pic.why is it consultants concern themselves with other areas of expertise (a good thing in your case)my rheumy only went on about diet and weight loss not accept lupus symptoms which is why I saw him.my gp wont do a scan of my neck or refer me to endo.
Saw the pic anbuma, I looked like that just before my thyroid went 'puffy!' I had a big sac of swelling under my chin, it was all fluid and suddenly appeared when I had a really bad dose of tonsillitis and a tooth abscess at the same time. It's gone down lots over the years but never disappeared completely much to my dismay! I feel sad that you GP isn't supporting you, I feel really fortunate that I've got a good one.
A goitre is a swollen thyroid so wouldn't be under the jaw, as deede said, her lump was in the hollow of throat. This link shows a really large goitre but you will see that under the chin/jaw isn't puffy, the front of the neck is. A side photo might show us what you mean by the goitre swelling?

what si the lump under my jaw and enlarged larynx likely to be.?its definitely there
I don't know what the swelling under your chin/jaw is, I just thought it would help to see a picture of a goitre, since your GP was telling you it wasn't in the right place. The link doesn't take you to the right picture so I've done a separate post. Could it be swollen lymph nodes under you jaw?
don't know dr doesn't give me any answers.i dont know what nodules are only that others have mentioned them.going to take photos with me on wed at my appointment and tell him/show him others comments and how they are diagnosed when im not.
Again the nodules would be on your thyroid so lower down. I can feel my thyroid because it is swollen, and there is at least one additional lump on one side that the doctor can feel when he examines the area. You shouldn't be able to really feel the gland if it is healthy, although an unhealthy thyroid can atrophy and shrink so not feeling it is not necessarily a good thing either. I don't have any pain in mine, but I get recurrent bacterial and fungal throat infections, can go weeks with no voice at all as a result of those, and get a lump in my throat that feel like it's blocking my airway. Any swelling I get where yours is, is usually the lymph nodes reacting to those infections. Could it be that you have an untreated throat infection maybe? I get them because of untreated autoimmune thyroiditis, I am now self medicating.
this has been for at least 10 months.i had gallbladder removed in august and symptoms started around then-eyebrow hair loss.others who have had gallbladder removed say they have had thyroid issues as a result or gallstones are caused by thyroid-read an article on this.also have too many symptoms that are hypothyroid according to thyroid uk checklist of symptoms.what are you self mediacting on?
I nhtink that looks similar to my neck
I take NDT. I had elevated TSH (above range), and below range Ft4 as well as high antibodies. I started self- medicating after a horrible endo appointment, which I paid privately for, but by then my results had increased to the point my GP said he'd treat me with thyroxine but I decided to stick with NDT
Hello Anbuma,
Do you have trouble swolling, is their any pain with the swelling? I have a multinodular goitre and thankfully as long as I keep taking sea kelp, I tend not to get any trouble from it (before the sea kelp I got pain, trouble swolling and slight swelling) but I think (and I rarely say this) but If you are worried then please see your doctor, then they will refer you to an ENT specialist and a ultrasound scan will be arranged.
Best wishes
hi yes i do ,mainly meds and breakfast cereals end up choking and also choking sometimes for no reason, thyroid area painful to touch, and larynx area feels like being cut with a knife.then soreness.have asked for a scan btu so far refused.will try again
Hello Anbuma,
If you ask for things they do tend to get upset (that's always been my experience ), what I did was made an appointment to see my GP, told him of the pain and difficulty swallowing and swelling, and he did actually get up and examine me, he was concerned by the lumps he could feel and referred me to the ENT. The ENT specialist however was quite cross that I was even sent for a scan but reluctantly he let me have one. Do you take sea kelp - that certainly helped me when things were really bad (you do need to be careful not to take to much sea kelp though) and while you wait for the doctors to do what they are paid to do.
Best wishes
If your gp refuses to send u to a consultant, you could try asking for a x Ray. I was seeing a ent for something different, he saw my neck and sent me for x Ray which showed I had a large multi nodular goitre. The main difference I see now I've had it out and a tt is before I just thought I had a fat neck and stress, now when I touch my neck I can feel my collar bone all away along, just bone no fatty bits. That's how I spotted a goitre on my sister . If you can't clearly feel bone I would defiantly push your go for a referral.
he did say last time he would send me for an xray.i can feel my collarbone on my right side but it is sore to touch but the left side I can only feel the end nearest neck, again sore to touch.have fatty areas from my neck down to chest area and a few years ago dr said he did not know what they were(maybe just see so on left side of photo.it was suggested it could be "cushings"-do get unexplained bruising
How long ago did he say he would send you for xray? If it has been a while perhaps you need to chase the gp surgery to find out if it has been done. Ithink though if you are concerned it is your thyroid you would need an ultrasound to check it.
hi dr was running 30 minutes late .totally forgot to ask about xray.appt was to discuss meds which did but wouldn't accept further weight gain on abdomen nor neck symptoms told him about embarrassing bodies and woman had muscle separation and could it be that as i had a hollow in my stomach and he said mine was only 1 finger width and it would be 4 finger width.wasnt concerned about unexplained bruising.said to make another appt in 4 weeks but going to try and get another to discuss letter and answer s to q's.none available online.
my last appoitnemtn was 4 weeks ago.will chas eit up on wed,
