I have underactve throid symptoms, tiredness,we... - Thyroid UK
I have underactve throid symptoms, tiredness, weight gain, low pulse, muscle aches, lethargy, gruff voice. However my blood test is normal.
What was "normal"? Do you actually know the numbers? If not, try to get hold of the results, together with the reference ranges and post them here. Sadly, "normal" often doesn't mean optimal. Many doctors don't seem to realise this, unfortunately.
Other possibilities are Vit B12 deficiency, which has very similar symptoms, Vit D deficiency and/or ferritin deficiency. How long have you been feeling rough?
Thanks LilyMay - dont know numbers had test last summer. I did a home test last week and that was negative. Been feeling below par for years (I am 70). Weight quick on and very slow off - feels like hard work. My mum had Thyroid op when i was a teenager and then developed overactive thyroid in her 60s
...is it possible for you to post your results with ranges and then we will be able to help you. Don't quite understand the negative home test - what was it ?
Will try to get the results from the surgery on Monday. I bought a test kit where you prick your finger and put the blood in a special tray with some solution. If you get one line across its normal. If there are 2 lines it indicates low Thyroid. Prob not very accurate but I only had one line!
...not heard of that one ! But then I live in Crete and am not up to speed
maybe this one? homehealth-uk.com/medical/t...
Got my results from Doctors today. Test was done last May. Serum TSH level was 2.07 and Serum free T4 was 9.3 so both withn normal range. However I see that the MCHC level was just below range which indicates iron deficiency. It could be as simple as that. I will try an iron supplement for a month and if no better will go back to Doctor.
Thankyou Perky - yes thats the one I bought. It's a one-off test and mine was definitely a negative result. I dont know how accurate they are. It's silly but I wanted it to be positive so I at least could explain my symptoms. I just have to put it down to getting older. My daughter said to me yesterday 'well you are 70 mum!' Lol
I love to Google. And found this: madox.org/horizon-scanning-...
Now, if I'm reading right, the Prima test you did would only have been positive if your TSH had been greater than 10.
In the US, anything above 3 is deemed to indicate hypothyroidism. I think there's a good chance still that your TSH isn't in the normal range.
I did a similar home blood test - came back "normal" - since then the blood test via Blue Horizon came back elevated - I looked on the feedback on the site - I did not come across one person who said they did not get a negative result !! Go via BH if you can't get one from Docs, and remember to do it as early as you can in the morning as this is when your hormone levels are at their highest! xx
Thanks Sheenah - I will go back to my doctor - if I dnt get any joy I will try Blue Horizon x
The path lab in the UK quote normal to be
Tsh 0.345-5.60 and free t4 level 7.5-21.1. Is that different to the US then?
I have just been made aware that for the last few years I have been on Soya milk with breakfast cereal and green tea all the time (approx 3 day). I believe these can have adverse affect on Thyroid. I have stopped both now - may be that will help my symptoms to get better
