Erfa is one of the brands of natural thyroid hormone. Natural thyroid is made from dried pig gland and has been around for a very long time, it was used successfully for over a hundred years but has been largely replaced with synthetic hormones. Other brands of NDT are Armour, Naturethroid and Thiroyd.
