Thanks. I thought so too. Vit D supplementation needs to become much more mainstream.

I am currently on 150 a day and still feel tired , waiting on thyroid and testosterone tests to come back this week ask doctor for selenium blood test he refused me it saying that it nothing to do with thyroid , i couldnt believe what he said, will try another doctor next week .

When my last blood test cam back in October last year,my vit D was noted as low but still the surgery have ignored this - just as they have all the other low results. I will take this article in to my GP - thankyou

I take 10,000 IU's daily and have recently tested at 49 - a long way to go to reach 70. VitD needed in every nucleus of every cell in our body - that's an awful lot of VitD....

On spareribs profile there is a link to a letter which you can download from the Chief Medical Officer of Health to every Health Practitioner in the land outlining the need for VitD testing of certain groups. Personally I think it should apply to every person in the land. I have lived in Crete for 10 years and still cannot raise my levels - so there is something else going on and I am not alone !

Thank you for posting....

Hi

Thanks for posting, really interesting.

My level was 22 last May, started using 6000iu. sublingual spray daily and along with some of the summer sun we had my level raised to 93 by September, I felt a lot better.

here in the UK,my GP refused to do vit D tests, he said the NHS don' do it, it is pointless, if I feel I need vit D i should buy myself a suppliment - no info on strength / dosage.

they do not think vit D deficiency is a real issue.

grassrootshealth.net is a good Canadian website about VitD. There is a diagram at the top of the home page where you can see how much D to take based on your result. The measurement in the UK is different so you will need to convert. Divide your result by 2.5 to convert it into ng/ml/

See my post above where you can find the letter to download and show your GP - maybe they haven't read it.... VIT D is a huge issue - it is more than a vitamin - it is steroidal pre-hormone.

The NHS is not about preventative medicine - they only deal with things when they become serious and need serious drugs....Chinese Docs are only paid when you stay well :-)

..apologies the Grassroots website does not seem to be responding from this end - hope it works for you :-)

Hi Marz,

the website works fine from the UK - thank-you for this - I have been three before but forgot to bookmark it - have done so now and downloaded the chart.

Thank-you for the info on the letter - have printed it and will drop off at the surgery today when I am in for another B12 shot ( will be doing these at home as of next week - only have to go in once a week then - which is great as it hurts so much to get up and go in)

The UK NHS is a funny old thing though - not sure the doc will listen to the letter.

He called the hospital last friday to book me in as an acute patient to see the neurologist, and they said they were full and would call me Monday / tuesday - well it is friday and not a peep. So much for acute neurological treatment int he UK ! :-)

Hows things in Crete - have you got the dust cloud too or is it lovely and sunny there?

Big Hugs,

M

We have had an amazing winter - but they have hinted at an overcast sky tomorrow and rain on Sunday. :-( Still the plants and shrubs could do with a bit and give us a rest !

Sorry to hear about your hospital appointment - it does seem down to the inefficiencies of staff and their work ethic it seems to me - but then I am just a Grumpy Grandma !! Maybe if you feel up to it you could give them a ring on Monday. Do hope all goes well with the appointment. If I were you - I would keep that copy of the letter from the Chief Medical Officer of Health about VitD until you see your Doc. You could play a little game - Have you seen the letter from the CMOH about VitD Doc ? - No answer was the stern reply ! That will be the time to drop it in his lap !! Personally Thyroid and many other people should come under the heading of - vulnerable people - for testing purposes....as per the letter....

No dust cloud - just the concerns that nasty chemical weapons from Syria are in a boat somewhere near Crete - yikes....otherwise everything is good....
