Well it wouldn't be the first time that Ruth Archer had a thyroid problem:

In the spring of 1971, the plaintiff Ruth T. Archer discovered a small lump on her neck and made an appointment with ...

Funny how I always imagine her as being dark-haired, in fact, more like Jill Halfpenny.

(But not the one I referred to in my silly response...)

It seems Ruth and I have very similar likes and dislikes. I miss the cows. I used to love lying in bed listening to them in the morning.

Is it too early for chocolate? It's two hours since I had breakfast...

It's never too early or late for chocolate.

Pain au chocolat & hot chocolate are breakfast staples in la belle France - our closest neighbours may be onto something!

Of course they are. Chocolate is life affirming and should be eaten at every meal and inbetween.

Hi Louise,

What a world you have missed! it is a radio 4 programme, series. it has been running since 1956 ( I think). I have listened when ever I could.,from the first episode. Not quite the same now. it was originally to educate farmers. Now on 7 pm, repeat 2 pm next day. None on Saturday. Weeks omnibus, with omissions, on Sunday 10am!

I always remember sitting by a colonel at a dinner party. He told me he did not mind being posted to Germany s he could still get the archers there

We need her to have a GP who will stick their neck out and give her NDT - now that would be good. Or maybe she could get stuck with an unsympathetic buffoon, discover TUK and then find someone who would prescribe NDT.

I shouldn't think either scenario will run. Levo will be the instant cure :X

One of my consultants, well trained about thyroid from me, not an Endo, is an adviser, so lets hope!

I think it will be hypo > Levo = well again, sadly, unless the writers &/or their families have experience of hypoT. Jackie, I'll be imagining you yelling at the radio "Never mind your TSH. What's your FT3?" :-D

Hi We shall see, but you my well be right. Although said consultant does know I cannot take levo!

They are probably getting everyone worried that she has recurrence of the cancer. It's about the right timing. This means either she is going to written out of the show (dies of cancer) or that everyone gets very upset about it but she recovers. Either way I have to say "Am I bovvered?".

Clutter in reply to eeng

Eeng! I'm shocked. They've done unsuspected pregnancy and cancer. Perhaps she's caught something nasty from the cows and sheep.

It would be a very straightforward diagnosis and immediate relief of symptoms with Levothyroxine, I think, if the storyline goes with HypoT. Ruth won't be prescribed ADs, won't gain weight, her hair won't fall out and they won't discuss gut autoimmunity problems. I rather hope it isn't that because the likely simplistic resolution won't help those of us who aren't optimally treated.

I've only just listened to the omnibus - don't you think this is rather sudden onset? I can't remember any previous indications of anything amiss. It may be the cancer returning. It will be interesting to hear this thread develop.

According to Rachel Johnson in the Mail today, it would appear that Ruth Archer is actually pregnant with her fourth child (at the age of 45). Makes you go cold inside, doesn't it?
