private endocrinologist: does anyone know of a... - Thyroid UK
private endocrinologist
Can I be nosey and ask why you want a private Endo in this area? It's my area as well ( Borders) and I have had hellish experience of BGH and both their ( so called) Endos !! There is a guy in Edinburgh called Dr Toft who is supposed to be well informed. Read a couple of articles by him though and not sure he is not an arrogant git ! If you find someone decent will you share please ?
no problem.my gp refuses to refer me to a dermatologist even tho 2 A&E drs at BGH were appalled that I hadnt been referred and having symptoms of thyroidism he more than likely wont refer me to an endo either.can i ask what your experiences were?private message if you prefer.my neck now feels like its being pierced with a knife.
I had a severe hyperthyroid episode in Nov 2010. Was treated ( in England) with carbimazole and quickly resolved. I was only on the carb 6 months, a low dose. Was taken off it but symptoms came back within 3 months. Blood tests showed a non existent TSH but normal T4/T3. I had moved to Ireland
( husband Irish) and GP said not to worry, low tsh fine ! Had dreadful symptoms and was I'll for 8 months before finally being referred to Endo. She was great, back on low dose carb with the option of surgery or RAI if I wanted. She said it would be hard to control with meds as I was too responsive and that my system was very sensitive to thyroid hormone.
Returned to UK in Nov 2012, still on 2 monthly review and low dose carb. I was quite well and improving steadily. It'd downhill from there though. My bloods were fine ( as to be expected on meds ) so GP would not refer or prescribe !! Eventually I was referred to BGH. The Endo was useless, did not even open the folder !! I left and got a re referral to another Endo. She totally disregarded my history etc and backed her colleague. I get script filled in Ireland and self medicate !! Have recently started Catnitine ( supplement) and only take 5mg of carb every 10 days or so. I am really well. Heart good,eyes good, pain levels good, no rash or overheating, calm,rational,sleeping fantastic and blood pressure normal !! My Cp has removed me from list by letter today ( was never rude to her, just expressed my dissatisfaction politely) Nearest GP is 12 miles away !! I am still hyper but the carnitine controls most of the symptoms ( life extension magazine online ) Avoid both ends at BGH. Useless!!!!!
thank you .I will see another gp and ask for a referral if I can get an appointment.whatever happens I don't want my gp to remove me off his lists.
I sympathise its even worse living in the Borders and having to attend BGH as they cant get the doctors to work there,and the ones thay have are useless ! im also insulin dependent with severe neuropathy and they havent got a clue only cover their own backs and only hear but never listen !
