Hi Clutter,

I had missed this medical doc during my research, probably because in mid February i had told myself to just go ahead with the surgery and stop winding myself up by reading medical literature!

Anyway It looks really really useful.

Do you know If there a summary anywhere of the major ways (if any) in which this has been revised?

Thanks for posting it!

Hi Melissa,

Yes, sometimes it is necessary to step back and stop researching otherwise you'd go mad. I'm astonished at how little I researched prior to surgery and my cancer diagnosis. Probably because I was so ill and just wanted it done with. I really didn't research much until I realised that Levothyroxine wasn't working for me.

I don't know whether there is a summary anywhere. I hope you won't need it.

Very best wishes for tomorrow. x

Hi Clutter,

Thanks for that link too.

In my research I've noticed quite a few differences in what the UK and USA thyroid 'authorities' say about things. I also had one radiologist who told me not to read anything American and just stick to the BMJ.

It all makes for quite a minefield really, especially when you start reading about occult papillary cancer being considered a 'normal' finding in Finland.

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/240...

bmj.com/content/347/bmj.f47...

I also remember reading one article that said a huge number of people ( think it was like 40% or something?) actually have some papillary cancer cells in their thyroid but would go there whole life being none the wiser! It all goes to show you how little we still know really. Which has been a very frustrating realization for me throughout this process....

All the best,

Melissa

Mmmmm, and where would we all be if we stuck to the BMJ? How patronising. :x

Medical xenophobia! I imagine the radiologist assumed you were reading crackpot cure websites. Pity s/he didn't check with you before making such an ignorant comment.

Yes, I've read that many die with PTC rather than of it and it has been mooted that smaller cancers should be renamed. What I haven't seen is anything saying how long those people had PTC before they died ie how long can you have it before it becomes problematic. There is research starting but it will be a long time before it is known. In the meantime, who wants to risk it spreading and metastasing elsewhere?
