I have been hypothyroid for eighteen months, take 150mcg thyroxine. Dr wants to prescribe hydroxychloroquine for my arthritis.

Does anyone know if this could affect my hypothyroidisim ?

Try taking any meds 4 hours away from Levothyroxine.

Hopefully someone who has experience of taking hydroxychloroquine will respond.

Thanks, I think that it may interact due to altering the immune system! but can't find any info on web.

Hi I have been taking both for over 6 years with no adverse effects. I have lupus nephritis and hypothyroid plus others. I take same dose of thyroxine as you and 175mg hydroxychlo.... I take lots of others too so cant exclusively say they are ok but personally I have never had any issues. Important to get some help with the arthiritic condition. Do you understand how the quinine works? Hope this puts your mind at rest.

Thanks for your reply trudes, this is the third time I have had an appt with rheumatologist, other two packed me on my way said I did not have ra and there was nothing wrong with me. Then I lost a joint in my finger as it just disintegrated. This dr now taking me seriously, waiting for back scan and scan of hands and asked to consider taking this drug, no formal diagnosis but may be psoriatic arthritis, x

I am not tired, sleep ok, hair ok, still a bit cold but in general feeling ok, but joint pain worse, very stiff, can't seem to see the wood for the trees.
