MY QUESTION IS WHY WHEN I GO INTO A ROOM I REAC... - Thyroid UK
MY QUESTION IS WHY WHEN I GO INTO A ROOM I REACH OUT FOR THE LIGHT SWITCH TO TURN ON THE LIGHT AND THE LIGHT IS ALREADY ON .
Is your question connected to thyroid problems?
WHAT DO YOU MEAN IF ITS CONNECTED TO THYROID PROBLEM DONT UNDERSTAND
You have joined a thyroid support group. Have you been diagnosed with a thyroid disorder, or some other health problem?
A YEAR AGO DR TOLD ME I HAD A LITTLE BIT OF THYROID AND LITTLE BIT OF CHOLESTROL AND IM GOING THROUGH MENOPAUSE.
Welcome to our forum. I cannot answer about your lights.
A more important question is are your on enough thyroid gland medication? Why I ask is that often doctors don't take notice of clinical symptoms and a higher cholesterol level is one clinical symptom. Many rely on the TSH alone to make a diagnosis.
If you have had a blood test for your thyroid gland, if you get a copy from your doctor, with the ranges and post on another question for our members to comment. It is more important to make sure you are on optimum medication. You should always have a copy of your blood tests for your own records.
I blame low voltage light bulbs that have been forced upon us all! My eyes go dim a lot too and the world loses colour, was told it was a low adrenal symptom, tho not by a doctor.
Oh wow, I thought it was just me. While I'm looking for clothes to wear - with the lights on - I still have to feel my way through them because as you say the colour has gone out of everything and I can tell more by feeling them than by looking at them.
The good news is that the bulbs are very variable and you can buy good ones or bad ones. The ones with the warmer light are much better in my experience, and although in general I prefer lower light, I find the new bulbs are better when brighter.
When we moved and put energy-saving bulbs in all the lights in the new house, we ended up with a big box of reject bulbs which didn't work out - too cold, too dim, too bright etc - which took up space for ages until we eBayed them. The quality is not consistent.
Susy, Loss of colour vision is most certainly thyroid related, although maybe there's an adrenal connection too. I lost all colour vision for a while when I was severely hypo. Everything was in shades of grey. Very scary, and especially scary for someone like me who relied on their ability to use colour in their job.
Here's the research article:
Thyroid hormone controls the eye‘s visual pigments throughout life

I got told by the medical profession I was imagining it! needless to say I ignored them, it not so bad now I'm on armour but like yourself it was pretty scary at the time, like you everything was just shades of grey.
Thanks for the articlewill read shorty when I have my coffee
Yes, I recall my GP looking at me with the usual raised eyebrow when I mentioned it. Considering how important thyroid hormone is to brain function, it's staggering how much 'we are imagining' things when we're hypothyroid!
To be fair to the medics, that research article I linked to is from March 2011, which was long after my loss of colour vision experience. That of course does not excuse the 'always blame the patient' attitude though. We should at least be given the benefit of the doubt.
Maybe someone should do the research that proves how thyroid hormone deficiency significantly improves our imagination ability
wow that must have been really scarey for you Red & Susy
I did feel all senses were disappearing 'tho (apart from being shortsighted)
like I was just shutting down....
put's my no taste/smell into perspective (could also be low zinc - but isn't)
Tinnitus & hearing in the distance/lip reading (could also be low VitD/Mag?)
'blunting' to fingertips & parathesia or numbness (could also be B12?)
Spatial awareness
Emotional feeling void
not feeling hungry
general awareness
list could go on... but my 'word finding power' has suddenly gone
I feel (if that's the right word) a post coming on when I can think better..... J x
Do you have visiion problems lagueratexmex? I'm asking because you are typing everything in capitals, which in forums is usually considered as shouting. I'm wondering if you are doing it because you find it easier to read?
Have you been to see an optician to get your eyes examined? There are so many possible causes of poor vision that I wouldn't even like to start speculating.
lol yes I feel more confortable typing in capitalize because I can see the letters much bigger and yes I have a dr.s apt next week let see what the results are.
You know nobody has answered my question. My question was why is it that when I go into a room I notice that Im going to turn on the light and then I realize that the light is already on Im wondering why Im having this problem.
I find capitals very hard to read, If you are having difficulty with the size you can always zoom your page, browsers zoom by holding control and + (- to zoom out)
Goodnite everyone and thankyou for your replys.
That is a bit whacky! I forget where the light switches are and fumble on the walls trying to locate them. I have been here for over a year - you'd think I'd have learnt them by now it is a one bed flat not some huge mansion where one might have an excuse! I think my short term memory simply short circuits making me do bizarre things. I used to say really daft things when I was very ill that were related to suffering from a very poor short term memory. I hate those awful low energy bulbs it is like living in a dingy, sickly light. Perhaps your mind is telling you subconsciously that it needs more light to function to the max. I got me a lumie light (really powerful one) that puts the colour back into everything and fights against SAD! I can really recommend them. I am getting100 watt daylight bulbs from now on.
Hi TSH110
I get this problem too. Worse thing I find is that I switch off the wrong socket and end up turning something else off instead! It's annoying when that happens!
Like yourself I have a one bed flat too.
Am so jealous you have a light that helps SAD. I think I suffer from a bit of that during the winter. But then again who wouldn't feel sad around winter time?
Good luck with your lumie lights - they sound interesting!
