Me too :) x

Thanks Clarebear. Have just been reading it over again to make sure there are no spelling mistakes. I don't want to put men off signing or exclude them, or make out their illness is any the less, but I think it is important to make a point about the gender issue. That is sometimes what makes politicians and policy makers take notice.

Signed. Having suffered for years unnecessarily because of unfair assumptions made just because I'm female I feel strongly there is a gender issue here.

Am an Avaaz member - so have signed. Just before I read your post I was thinking that with headway being made by others about correct testing/diagnosis - maybe the time is right to campaign for Anti-body testing as a basic test. In view of the fact that Hashimotos is the most common thyroid illness worldwide then why ignore the test and leave people to suffer. Mostly - in my experience - you can have anti-bodies and NORMAL/IN RANGE TFT's.....

Then of course we need specialists that JUST deal with auto-immune illness so they can advise on diet and nutrition.....or am I dreaming of an impossible world ? Also a quick ultrasound may reveal nodes which would indicate the thyroid is struggling even with normal TFT's - as it was in my case.

Good Luck with the campaign - Avaaz is good.....

Thanks Marz. I think that docs are not taught enough about the progress of this disease and its various manifestations. Their textbooks go into amazing detail about say the structure of the thyroid gland, but do not give a good description of what is actually happening throughout the body and the various ramifications. I do agree about testing for antibodies, especially as the test actually seems to work.

Check out the Thyroid uk website. A petition was brought to the petitions committee of the Scottish Parliament on 5th February. Very interesting and there is an option for people to add their comments and experiences. People power.

This is imperative to people who are suffering especially if it is damaging thier bodies because of wrong treatment or not correct testing. Never mind one blood test what about scans and alergic reactions, hormones, there is a far wider picture. I beleive there should be a specialised clinque to cover the thyroid conditions it is a life threatening condition. My GP said to me I quote "it is all I can do to keep you alive".

in reply toKezzerb

Thanks for signing. I agree with you about the special clinic. Doctors know nothing very little about hormone problems and are terrified of replacing them. Take a look at Dr Lindner's site, hormonerestoration.com, there are some very good explanations there, especially under the heading Why Docs Don't Get It.
