I was just reading the article in the Telegraph on this very thing and was going to post it if no one else had already done so. Heres the link anyway

I'm pleased, but how much has NHS England cost, and how much money have they spent on their bungled communications - enough for many many T3 tests and prescriptions, no doubt

The whole opt out thing would probably have fallen foul of EU data protection which leans towards opt in. I suspect this is the reason it was being rushed through despite only one third of people being aware of it.

Everyone was 'opted in' and data could be sold off which is frankly awful. They have said that only sex, age range and area of residence will be used to identify the data but many people are suspicious. I certainly am!

I wonder whether it's to compare the Data of care given by Gp's in different locations. Similar to identifying the bad practices in hospitals.

I do not think it is anything to do with helping patients by gathering statistics that could improve the system. I think it is about making money from our records by selling them to insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies and the like. The ethics of doing this are very questionable, even without the possibility of breach of confidentiality and security.

They've already published a price list that includes the cost of buying personal, identifiable data :

Disgraceful and unethical practice!

I felt physically sick when I read this. How can it be ethical?

Hi Hennerton

In that case it shows how desperate they are.

Desperate for what? To make money out of us yes but it cannot be right. Surely it contravenes some issue of human rights. That law is so abused anyway, I cannot believe a proper solid case could not be brought, if someone had the courage to do so.

Hi Hennerton

Should any one feels their rights have been compromised there is "office of information commission" to complain to.
