Thank you buddy99

These data indicated that LT3 monotherapy improved QOL and hypothyroidism symptoms without causing adverse cardiovascular effects.

Somebody has been paying attention ( to us)!

Now " they" need to act on it.

I agree with you. If levo alone isn't helping people relieve their clinical symptoms, they should be offered 'options' i.e. T4/T3 combination or T3 alone. They cannot be offered NDTs (natural dessicated thyroid) hormones as it has been withdrawn from being prescribed, despite it being prescribed since 1892 and many still recover on it today.

Yes, shaws, I feel that if T4 mono is not working there should be at least an option to explore other avenues. And it would be so much better if this could be monitored by a KNOWLEDGEABLE physician to keep any potential harm (which always seems to be the mantra for T4 only treatment) at a minimum. At least try, for heaven's sake, to improve the QOL. And if nothing else works physicians could always return to the cheaper and "more comfortable" (for doctors) treatment. Desperate people will try to improve their situation anyway in my experience and thereby chancing to harm themselves choosing unsafe ways to do so. And pharma should also make alternatives to T4 more readily available. But then they might lose their power. I can't see them loose money (very important to not lose money!) by having a broader market, but then, what do I know? I'm not a pharma boss.

I agree wholeheartedly with your post. Thousands of people seem to do fine on levothyroxine but few doctors actually know any clinical symptoms.

If you click on my name it will take you to my 'page' where, if you wish, can read how I, finally, became diagnosed as hypo. I had never heard of it myself and didn't mean anything to me and I suspect many on the forum haven't either.

I read your journey (I recover fast from being angry 😜) and I am appalled. But is so, so common for doctors to do what you describe. I'm so glad to have stumbled upon this wonderful group. And I met a person here from my area who gave me the name of a healthcare provider whom I am now seeing (my daughter as well) and hope that we will find a way to improve things. The main thing is, I have learned, to not give up (no matter how shabbily you are treated and how much you are discouraged). We are all fighters here and we are so much stronger than we are given credit for.

That's good you've found some support from a stranger. It is amazing I think what can connect us to one another, especially if struggling and wondering why we feel so awful and GPs seem to have no clue at all.

It is simple and to think that before blood tests and levo were introduced that we wer given NDTs and they saved lives from 1892 onwards - no blood tests but only skill of doctors.

Despite all the symptoms, which I now know ARE symptoms, it took at least 15 years of suffering to be diagnosed. 15 years!!! And my daughter was treated with the utmost disrespect and condescension before being diagnosed after 5 years (and probably only because I kept encouraging her to not back down). Both of us were treated for "mental health" with adverse long term consequences. It is despicable and it makes me so mad. And doctors' arrogance has no end (with few exceptions). I will read about your journey once I've calmed down 😉

It's beyond belief.Hope you and your daughter are improving....it's tough!

I was close to 70 before I discovered why my health had been slowly declining for most of my life and why I had reached the stage where I could barely function.

It took a huge amount of reading and support from amazing people here to find the answer.....all in my profile.

Much has improved but too much damage occurred over the years to leave me completely symptom free.

I don't consider age to be part of this experience ...lots of people my age are perfectly fit and healthy!!

Onwards and upwards!

One of the things I've learned is that getting angry is just a waste of one's energy!

Take care.

DippyDame, although I agree with you that getting angry is a waste of energy, getting even is also not an option. So I get mad for a minute and then I get busy.😜

As DippyDame has stated sometimes members have to go on a long journey to finally be diagnosed. GP phoned to tell me that there were no problems with my blood test but he had no idea what a TSH of 100 indicated. The professionals are very quick to state mental health when it is actually themselves that are the cause because they are unaware of any clinical symptoms the patients may have.

Haha Gregor! 😂 It is more likely that the pope will confirm that he is a Buddhist than a doctor confirming that some do better when not on mono T4 therapy.
