May be jumping the gun but I think I would go for a thyroid scan (£120) and you don't need a GP referral. There was a thread on here a couple of days ago about private scan. Admin will help if you cant find it
Have you had an antibody test. You will see on here that some folks can't get NHS labs to do the test, so look at Blue Horizon. I have used them and would recommend. good luck
crimple are you talking about an ultrasound or the radioactive scan? I've had some throat symptoms and I sometimes wonder if it would be a good idea to at least have a look at what's going on in there. My mum has thyroid nodules which her doctor keeps an eye on but mine has no interest.
I wonder what are the criteria for having a scan and why some people get them and others don't even though presumably we all have inflamed thyroids.
I was talking about a thyroid ultrasound scan which will show if you have any nodules and also if the thyroid has been attacked by antibodies (Hashimotos) If your Mum has problems it is worth considering the scan as often thyroid problems run in families. (It seems to gallop through mine lol)
I had to ask for antibody test and fortunately GP agreed but it takes 3 weeks to get appointment to see a GP and 4 days for a telephone conversation. I am not very patient and prefer to be in control of my health so will pay for a scan in next week or so.
where deos anyone get these scans done?i am unable to travel to private clinics as don't drive and inaccessible by public transport.
