Hello Everyone, I am just starting the process of trying to get a diagnosis of hypothyroidism.... Any Advice??

I am 60 now, and probably been battling with this all my life. Been reading loads on the net, and got the book STTM. Doing Basal Temperatures before I see the Doc again next week. TSH levels "normal" - now there's a thing!!

I have never heard of a GP or Endo taking any notice of the basal temp results. They definitely should, otherwise why would we have a low temp. The body keeps the temp around 37 to kill any viruses etc which may invade our body. If you have to have another thyroid gland blood test, the earlier the appointment the better, as that's when TSH is highest. Some links:-

Thankyou for that. Thyroid Uk is an excellent site. I was one of the brave souls a good few years ago now who fought to get natural progesterone therapy. My excellent Doc then used me as a guinea pig and eventually got 30 other women on it. I was on it for years via the NHS, then they withdrew it. So I got my own, and continued to be well with no thyroid symptoms. A couple of years ago, a kinesiologist friend said she didn't think I needed it anymore, and as it was quite expensive I stopped using it. I think now that was a big mistake, and I have reordered it - costs around £17 per tube but lasts a long time, and one of the best on the market. Once, if ever, I get this diagnosis I plan to go on ThyroGold. Would be pleased to hear people's experiences of it. If anyone wants info regarding progesterone let me know.

Hi Sheenah...I like you have suffered with thyroid for most of my life. Mine has gone untreated for over 20 years and if no treatment is offered tomorrow, like you I am taking things into my own hands. My sister lives in Scotland, she has exactly the same as me but she was lucky enough to be able to afford to see Dr peatfield. She is on NDT and has brought me some of her private prescription to try for 3 months if I am yet again unsuccessful tomorrow.....

I finally got a diagnosis of Hashimotos in Jan 2012 and in March of the same year I was rushed into hospital with unexplained jaundice. Unfortunately, I now have two other autoimmune diseases relating to the liver. I have autoimmune hepatitis and primary biliary cirrhosis and there is a direct link between untreated hashimotos and autoimmune liver disease....I understand fully the frustration of many on this site GPs have a wait and see approach and don't care about how these diseases affect our whole, they base everything on lab results not symptoms.

I go back to see the ENT person tomorrow because they found another nodule which makes 4 on my thyroid. I am unwell and it is not my liver because my liver function test was normal. He took a fine needle test three weeks ago and there were many things mentioned, cancer being one of them. .I am still receiving NO treatment despite the fact that if my thyroid had been treated 20 years ago, I would not be in the situation I am now; and tomorrow I am not leaving without solution to my symptoms. I am so worried that it could be cancer, but if it is I will deal after kicking the ass of my Gp for neglect and for the ENT not finding it earlier.

I would also like to ask you about progesterone cream. I had a hysterectomy17 years ago, bad periods were the cause (thyroid symptom)....I was on HRT and was taken off it because despite the fact it was working very well they thought the patches were dangerous for my liver. Is there anything in natural progesterone that would damage my liver? If not which do you recommend? I have terrible issues with the lady parts to the extent it hurts when I sit down. Gp gave me some oestrogen cream and am going to give that a go from tonight. Any help would be brill.

I use to use wellsprings progesterone cream.But recentl,i not sure,but it seem to make me bit more hypo!so i stopped.But maybe will trial again.Can u send me info of the one u use(u say its a good one)..thanks.(by the way;Dr Mercola, or soneone,warnsaainst using progesterone cream long term as it builds up too much in ur tissues!)
