No you definitely shouldn't stop the medication. Hyper and hypo symptoms can actually be very similar so you can't assume what's going on. If you feel unwell you should return to the doctor for a blood test to check your levels.

I agree with hamster - go and ask for a blood test and don't stop your carb.

You might find your surgery query why you are there for an 'extra' blood test, mine did! Then when they came back my results were 'within the range' but I stuck to my guns said that I was not feeling good (I was absolutely frozen through and through - and this was in June) and my lovely GP gave me a little increase in levo which took me back to feeling good. Good luck x

Oops - have just re- read your post and seen your problem is that the surgery is closed for the weekend. Shouldn't think a couple of days will make that much difference - but I am no expert! I stayed on the dose I was on for about a week until my results came back. I'm sure someone else much better informed will come on and tell you about the half life etc of Carbimazole

Thankyou for your replies. Its difficult to know what to do when your new to a medication.I will carry on as usual with my carb until thurs when I have my first endo appt unless things get much worse before then.Still have all the hyper signs so it makes sense. So grateful for this forum!

I have Graves and at one point about six weeks after I started taking levo as part of my block and replace treatment I had what I thought were hyper symptoms again and someone on here said I might actually be a bit hypo and needing more levo and it turned out that was exactly what was wrong. I saw my doctor who prescribed amitryptiline to stop my racing heart! I have asthma so I can't be given beta blockers - I took them until the palpitations stopped then phased them out and by that time I was due to go to see my endo again and my thyroxine dose was raised, which sorted out all the symptoms until I needed another increase after another six weeks or so. It is all very confusing until you get to know how your body reacts to everything. Good luck on Thursday, keep us posted. x

I agree with Hampster and Fruitandnutcase don't stop the carbimazole without having a blood test. At one stage during my treatment I had been told by my endo to reduce from 40 - 20mg in one go, never again, i became so extremely ill within a matter of days as I had not had a blood test and my levels were far from being stable and shot right up again rapidly. I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

Good advice I've had from members here is to try and get your bloods done a few days before your endo appointment as he/she will then have the most up to date results. Good luck on Thursday, it's always a good idea to take someone with you and write any questions down to take with you x

Keep taking the Carbimazole until your blood results are seen by the Endo and you are told what is going on. Hyper and Hypo symptoms can overlap and be very similar.

Good Luck with your appointment on Thursday. Keep us updated please. xx
