I think it is definitely a good thing to send him as you do want to see if all is ok with his pituitary, I can imagine how worried you must be as I have a son who is 18. They are still our 'babies' no matter what age they are aren't they?

Is he taking his medications consistently and away from food? (at least the T4/Levo should be away from food/meds, T3 is more 'flexible', I am on T3 only).

How is he by the way? is he a very mature 20yr old or still requiring lots of guidance and support from you? My son is still very young in his mind for health related things.....

how is he coping with all of it?

hugs to you

also how long after his T3 tablets was the blood test done? if this was less than 12 hours after his T3 tablets I would not be 'worried' about the fT3 of 9.8 to be honest, however the TSH of 107 is 'odd' so the MRI is still a good idea.

FT3 - it is very difficult to get an accurate blood test result when on a combination T4/T3 medication as the blood levels of T3 go up and down so quickly. It is good that your son's docs are reacting and following this up -it is difficult not to worry -especially when it concerns are own children. Thinking about you both. Big hugs -let us know how he goes on.

Hi In his position I would ask. Normally initial test for Pituitary is 24 hour urine collection. However, MRI is useful for tumours and other things. Hopefully only good and to rule out anything nasty.

Bes wishes to you both.
