Swopping Levo from Am to Pm ...

Hi, after reading lots on here about Levo not absorbing properly if you have milk at similar time I decided to change from taking it first thing in the morning. So I didn't have a tablet this AM, going to take it tonight. But, I have gone really tired and back to my sweats all day today, would your body miss just one tablet so soon? im only on a starting dose of 25mcg ?

How long have you been on the 25mcg of levo? 25mcg is a starting dose and can take up to 6 weeks to get fully into the system. It has a fairly long half life, about a week I think, so it may be unlikely to have affected you in such a short time.

My thougthts are that the tiredness is more likely to be a sign that you need more levo (not sure about the sweats though).

Hope this helps,

Jan

Hi, only been on it 9 days but have been feeling much better already. I will just take it tonight before bed and hope for the best, and that I will feel better again tomorrow Thanks.

I have recently changed to taking my Levo at bedtime and my Endo is happy with this.If at any time you need to take other meds eg. Vits as I do then you are free to take them in the morning and they won't affect the uptake of your levothyroxine.

I hope your GP increases your meds at 6 weeks after a new thyroid gland blood test as 25mcg is very small. Always get a copy of your results, complete with the ranges, for your own records and also so you can post if you have a query.

Yes, well she wasn't even sure it is a thyroid problem, but as my results were "borderline" and my symptoms so typical of HYPO and the strong family history she said I would try them for 3 months then see how I feel. I def even feel better already after only 9 days! I take citalopram 10mg at night but haven't read anywhere that SSRI's can affect Levo.

I do have a copy of my results and the ranges :-)

The fact that you feel better after 9 days is great and also that your GP treated you according to your symptoms too.

Normally, when your body needs more levo you begin to feel unwell again, so I hope you get an increase before that.

Depression is also a clinical symptom of hypothyroidism which may be alleviated by adequate medication.Do not stop any medication without advice of your GP.

Thanks. I actually take Citalopram for Social Phobia not depression, hence the low dose and ive been on them for 10 years. I was wondering if thyroid problems can alter your mood and emotions much? this may sound silly but I don't seem to be bothered about my BF much lately ie seeing him, sleeping with him.... its like all my emotion has disappeared?! very odd.

That's good about 'depression' but, yes, our emotions can alter. T4 changes to enough T3 as T3 is the active hormone we require for our metabolism. T4 is inactive so when you get a dose which converts to enough T3 for you, then you should feel better overall.

It can affect you quite quickly eventhough t4 is supposed to have a long half life i i forget to take mine i am an absolute mess tiredness and brainfog come back to haunt me so it can definitely be because you skipped your levo. Citalopram should not affect levo its the tricyclic antidepressants that do.
