Unless it it T3 or Natural Desiccated thyroid, no, I have no idea. Please do update us when you get the prescription.

I'd be fascinated to hear what it is. Can I place a random bet? Amitriptylene. Cheap as chips and prescribed for almost everything.

Equally cynical here, my first though would be an alternative branded thyroxine as opposed to an alternative TO thyroxine

An antidepressant. ;-)

Yep, equally cynical. Here's hoping it's something much more useful. x

Hi zecca, may I ask: in which part of the country do you live? Most of us are struggling to get this without success. Thanks, Jenny

Please can you explain a bit about this tablet for me I'm not the brightest star, thanks

CBT is cognitive behavioural therapy (aka brainwashing - didn't know it could be computerised!) don't let them say it's in your head - it's in your neck! J x

Sadly NDT (natural dessicated thyroid from piggies/cows) is not often prescribed nowadays in favour of 'synthetic' chemical (levo) - but it was used for 100+ years and STILL helps significantly - or perhaps humans or pigs have changed? (or just that you can't patent a pig?) :)

Sorry Zecca I didn't see your post saying that you were going to be commenced on liothyronine before I made my cynical comment. It is the thyroid hormone T3 andis the most active thyroid hormone its usually started on a low dose then increased gradually as required until you feel well. I'm sure there are others on this site who know more about this medication than me. My endocrinologist put me on this drug when my thyroxine didn't appear to be working for me but I found it hard to tolerate and couldn't raise the dose at all. Eventually I was prescribed Natural Thyroid with a small dose of thyroxine which I responded to much better. Hope it works for you ( as I am aware it does for many) so fingers crossed.

Thank you alli

Good you're trying Liothyronine (T3) that's the active hormone whereas Levo (T4) is the storage sort but some can't convert T4 to T3 or it just doesn't suit. (NDT contains both). better explained here...
