I;ve been on carb and not happened to me but if you are at all worried call hospital, when you go on carb they give you a leaflet and if it says that's something to be concerned about cut out the GP...... the only problem I had on carb when on 40mg daily was tingling hands (GP said it was carpal tunnel, but reduced dosage and lo...it went away)...... oh and putting on a damn stone.... x

Best to get checked. They can tell if something is not right with blood test of blood cell counts.

I had to switch to PTU (a different type of anti-thyroid med). I didn't have bleeding gums, but was getting lots of infections. I felt silly because I went to the doctor with a mild sore throat and eye infection (could have got drops from chemist), but there was a problem with my white cells as a result of the carbimazole.

It might be absolutely nothing, but best to check with doctor. Take the information that you have/ the instructions that come with your medicine. All the best. S

Hi as above, a quick blood test can check your white cells so see your GP. It may or may not be related.

Hi there.I too was on carbimazole and had bad sore gums/teeth.

Ended up ringing nhs direct and then visiting dentist and docs. To be told not too worry as they didn't know what it was. Was on constant pain killers for weeks until I couldn't take it anymore.

Went back to Docs who then changed me to PTU (Propylthiouracil)

And within the week the pain subsided. It was definitely a side effect tho no one thought it was.

I have very mild pain but I can live with it. If I had stayed on carbimazole I would have taken my teeth out.

If it carries on and test shows its not your white cells please ask to try PTU as it may help.

Wishing you well

X

Thanks for the advice I had a blood test today will get results in morning. My gp says he specializes in endocrinology and it's not a side effect he's heard if. I feel like I'm teething like I want to bite down all the time :-/ x

I too was told that it wasn't a side effect but after I changed medication it subsided. So it was in the end. My Endo & GP said it wasn't but then had to say not a usual one. Think they may need to relook at this as a possible side effect. Everyone is different with their meds and if it becomes too much too cope with ask to change. I sufferred for too long and ended up on high pain killers. Still have it very midly but no where near the distressing and painful time.

Good luck today with results
