As I suffer from IBS i would like to take peppermint oil capsules after meals. Will this interact with my 50 mg of levothyroxine, or is it OK to take?

It all depends on what time you take your levo - do you stick to the golden rule of now food and drink (except water) two hours either side of taking levo because if you do and you are going to stick to the same rule with your peppermint oil then you should be o.k.

Some things, like iron and calcium, need to be kept four hours away from levo so, if I were going to take something I wasn't sure of, maybe do the same with your peppermint until you have found out a little more info.

The peppermint oil is specially prepared so that it does not release the peppermint until it is in the gut. So I'd suggest any interference would be far more likely in the two-to-four hour window than earlier! :-)

No - I don't know what interference could occur. Sorry.

Thanks. I take my levo when I wake up, at least an hour before food and drink. I would take peppermint oil between lunch and tea, and then again in the evening, so it wouldn't be near taking my levo.

I was diagnosed with ibs but its just a catch all where the nhs cant be bothered to find out whats wrong with you. I excluded everything for a week then reintroduced it. Turned out it was caffeine. I cut caffeine out and never had another horrific episdode.

I have tried a lot of self help exclusions too. I know what foods I can't eat, but foods I used to be able to eat now cause problems. However the peppermint oil helps a lot.
