Sorry random question!

The back of my knee has been really itchy this week and I've now noticed I've got a bruise there!

Anything to do with thyroid??

Hypothyroidism can affect blood clotting with the consequence of bruising that occurs more easily, in some slightly odd places, and without significant impact having occurred.

However, bruisng can also occur in other disorders including, as an example, Addison's disease. And some things simply look like bruises but are not!

You really didn't expect a simple answer, did you? :-)

Is there ever a simple with this thyroid business!?

I keep thinking my thyroid stuff is in my head "/

no - it's in your neck.

low B12 is another thing to consider, whilst you at it, check ferritin, folate and Vit D J x

:) I asked for that!

I'm off to dr Thursday and I've no idea where to start with her. I know my thyroid is just out of the 'bracet' and my vit b12 is in the lower part of 'normal'

What should my levels be on the other stuff? X

:D

(Copied from another post) - ferritin (best between 70-90), folate (above 10), vitamin B12 (500 at the very least) and vitamin D (> 80 nmol/L) - a guide for optimal levels for most folk anyway. Good luck on Thursday J x

Thanks for that I know my vitb12 is 229 and dr said that's fine. I'll check my full blood count when I get home.

I've no idea where to start with the dr :(

Oh the joys!

Hi, glad you asked this question, I haven't been dg with Hyper/hypo yet but have many symptoms and a family history so waiting on more bloods. But I have noticed lately im getting random bruises, especially on legs. Yesterday I had two small bumps on my knee, they were itchy and quite near each other. within half an hour they had gone down and turned into two bruises? and then another small bruise pooped up near by? all very odd??

Iv`e noticed that I seem to bruise easily nowadays, I don`t know if that`s due to a medical issue, or just ageing skin.

I get loads of bruises and I never know why, how weird, that other people have the same problem.

I believe I'm hypo (w normal test results)......I bruise sooo easily that following a visa medical (for NZ) I was sent for clotting tests due to the severe bruising all over my body following regular bumps. They didn't discover a clotting problem, so I'm assuming its due to adrenal & thyroid issues.

I have been doing some research into the methylation cycle and found that abnormalities in methylation cause all sorts of problems, including bruising. This is caused by an abnormality in a gene called CBS which leads to instability of the blood vessel wall.

There seem to be all kinds of links to many health conditions and these abnormalities interact with thyroid problems making them worse. I test posotive for DI02 and MTHFR, I am going to get the full methylation panel tested as supplementation with the wrong thing at the wrong time can be very dangerous.

Check out the Dr Amy Yasko website and also the methylation cycle on the heartfixer website, x
