Block and replace: Hi x anybody been on block and... - Thyroid UK
Block and replace
Hi, I am. I started almost a year ago. I take my Levo with a drink of water when I wake up - that can be any time from 5.30 to 6.30am then I have breakfast about 8.00am. I take some other pills then too, Vit C, CoQ10, carbimazole and blood pressure pills. I take an A - Z multivitamin at tea time if I remember to.
I tried taking the levo at night but I didn't feel great so my doctor said to take it in the morning and leave a gap before I take my Carbimazole , my consultant and her assistants have all agreed that is how they want me to take it but I know a lot of people on here take their levo at night so I suppose it depends on what makes you feel best as long as you have it with water and on an empty stomach.
Bit long ended but that's about it,

Do you know I replied to this as well as to Julie earlier on and although it looked like both had gone through both replies have disappeared! Not sure what is going on.

Thanks Liz x how have you been in it x
I've been fine, you might get the other reply that seems to have disappeared but in case it has gone forever here goes.
I've been fine most of the time. To begin with I was allowed to go under active before being started on thyroxine which was a pain, my hair fell out and my fingernails were in such dreadful condition that my fingers were absolute agony all the time.
I fixed that with OPI Nail Envy for sensitive nails plus massaging them regularly throughout the day with almond oil plus an oat based hand cream.
I found after I had been on levo for about fur or five weeks I needed a bit more - first time I thought the palps I was getting were because I had gone hyper again but I was actually needing more levo. Second time I was incredibly cold and I realised why and managed to persuade my GP to give me a bit more levo wi though seeing my consultant, the first time my GP have me amitryptiline to stop the palps (I can't take beta blockers), I am getting palps again but I only have a couple of weeks to wait before I go to visit my consultant so I haven't done anything about it.
On holiday recently I never walked less than 17,000 steps a day for three weeks and we cycled too, one day we did 28 miles along a sandy path to a lighthouse, the temperatures were in the high 20's - 30's too. It is hard to remember how ill I was this time last year. I also realised while we were away that I had lost the shakes - photography is my hobby but my hands had been so shaky I couldn't use my camera without a tripod - besides I had lost interest in everything anyway - apart from sleeping that is - no problems taking photos now though and I want to too.
I have put on about ten pounds in weight over the year which is annoying - I liked being thin! That is my own fault though, I just seem to crave chocolate these days and I can be kind of weak about it.
When I think back my first question to the group was 'will I ever feel normal again?' The answer is a very definite YES!
I totally indulged myself and got masses of rest - I was SO tired all the time, I could sleep day and night, my husband shopped and cooked for most of the time, in fact we still cook together most days, it was a very hard struggle to get people to realise just how ill I was feeling because i looked ok - in fact I had lost so much weight I looked good however I persisted and they got the message eventually.
Good luck, it is a horrible condition but there is light at the end of the tunnel.

hi; I havent done block and replace but my daughter has since she was 13; she has always taken both Levo and Carbimazole)together in the morning. She (we) were never told anything about empty stomachs, etc, so she often took them before, during or after breakfast. She wasnt/isnt very particular about when she takes them either,,,,,,,, 21 now and seems OK!
Hi Julie.I used to take mine together first thing in the morning and wait half hour before a Coffee and breakfast. They worked for me.Have been off them 2 years now and i have had no signs of the thyroid playing up.Good luck.x
