Iron is needed for T4 conversion- so needs to be optimal.

Don't take Iron [or Calcium] within 4hours of Levo! It will affect absorption.

Hi Anita, I am also anemic and have autoimmune thyroiditis and taking iron tablets and levo. I take my iron tablets and other supplements B12, Vit C, Vit D in the morning before breakfast and take my levo at night to make sure the iron does not affect the absorption of the levothyroxine. As tegz says take at least 4 hours apart.

I have not had to take a painkiller for my aches and pains since I started taking B12 and levo (started on 25mgs levo for 8 weeks and now taking 50mgs for the last 4 weeks with another blood test next month). Have you had your B12 checked mine was on low end of the range and I self medicate with Jarrow B-12 (Methylcobalamin) 1,000mcg a day. I take 325mgs Ferrous sulfate (iron tablet). Is there a reason you take your iron morning and evening ? Do you take vit C as this will help you with absorption of the iron.

hi I don't think I have been tested for B12 I was having my yearly blood taken for my thyroid when they realised my iron was very low, I'd been low before and had to have injections, I have very heavy periods :-( , I'd not long pied my Levi to 125, I take zomorph for my back, I feel like I'm juggling all these tablets, thankful for your reply x

You must always take iron tablets on a full stomach as taking it on an empty stomach can cause damage to the lining of the gut and you must always take it with VitC otherwise the body will be unable to absorb it.

How do you take iron if you are taking T3? I have to spilt the T3 into 4 doses. Thankyou

What you are saying is that you don't have a four hour window free to take the iron? If this is the case I would change to splitting my T3 into 3 and fit the iron in that way.

When I was on a T3/T4 combo I used to split my T3 into 3 doses and my T4 I used to take of a night.

At what times do you take your T3?

I can only take 1/4 of a tablet so i cant take it in 3 doses instead of 4. Also i start feeling unwell when my next dose is due. I take my first one at 6am and my last one at 10pm. With a 4 hour gap either side of this it isnt possible to take my iron. I do need iron as my iron is low. any suggestions please.

The only thing I can suggest is to set your alarm for around 2am early morning and take it then BUT it is not ideal as you are taking it on an empty stomach, which could do damage. You would also have to take a glass of pure orange juice to bed with you and take the iron tablet with this.

You might be better to take your iron last thing at night - maybe with a biscuit or something - and then your T3 at about 2am as taking T3 early in the morning can, apparently, help with the adrenals. What I do know is that your T3 will definitely work better when your iron levels increase.

Thankyou Moggie for your help. I think that would be better thankyou. I tried last night at 2am to take the iron and not only did I wake my husband up with the alarm, I also had indigestion for the rest of the night. Swapping the T3 and iron around and having it with a biscuit would work much better. I didn't realise that the iron would help with the T3. Mandy x

Iron is really important for T3 as it is vital the uptake of the T3 into the cells.

I just stumbled upon these convos today trying to find info on how I'd feel when I stop taking my thyroid meds (levothyroxine). I'm so glad I did. I went to the link provided & found some info that may help. I need to find an endocrinologist soon.

I have major issues with my esophagus & from what I just read, it may have an impact on my thyroid. I've never even been ask any questions about my gut health. I take meds for depression but it seems worse. I was prescribed a high dose of iron but didn't know not to take it with my thyroid meds. I've had numerous esophageal spasms over the years & wonder if that can play a part in my thyroid health? My hair is thinning, I have no motivation, NO energy, no sex drive & other health related issues. I've been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, degenerative bone disease, Raynauds Disease & now the doc wants me to be tested for RA. I was suppose to go last Tuesday for that but I'm so tired all the time. And honestly I don't even want to hear what else can be wrong.

Just wanted to thank you.
