up until i was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and given levothyroxine i didnt feel bad had slight shortness of breath but mainly with activity never ever did i suffer with a racing heart or hurt from head to foot i could concentrate and crochet all day and easily follow a pattern. I did a freind a wavey blanket which had quite a complicated pattern to follow and found it easy and even made up an edging to go on it

yet a couple of weeks ago my daughter wanted a hat done and i couldnt for the life of me understand the pattern yet ive dont hats a dozen or more times.......she wants me to crochet sock monkeys for a clothes swap to sell ive been at this one for allmost 2 weeks and have done 4 legs im struggling to understand the pattern and i just cant sit and concentrate long enough to do it yet my 7 year old daughter has 5 of them lying around that i have made each one normally takes me 2 days...my heart races when i get up from sitting im constantly feeling like im short of breath i hurt all over i struggle to stay asleep at night im allways thirsty and just exhausted

If you haven't had a recent thyroid gland blood test, I think you may be due one. Phone and make an appointment for a new one, or see your GP if you need permission and say that you are feeling quite unwell and need a blood test. Also, if you haven't already had a vitamin B12, Vitamin D, iron, ferritin and folate, ask for these as the first two are usually deficient and can cause problems themselves.

You could be undermedicated. Get a print-out/copy of your blood test results with the ranges and post on a new question for comments.

last blood test was 9/9/2013

tsh5.2 U/ml (0.35-6.9)

dr insists i dont need my medication increased as levels are within range so i should feel ill

i can ask for more bloods and include everything that has not been tested

I would totally disagree with the doctor if my TSH was that high, and be urging them to increase or be finding another doctor!

oh and you shouldn't be doing this "thinking" lark... its not good for you lol :P

(Every time I start a sentence with "i ve been thinking, my partner groans loudly and rolls his eyes)

ive just brought the book understang thyroid disorders as recommended by someone on here so will be taking that to the dr and see if that helps

when i think theres an awful smell of burning rubber cant be good for me lol

Quite agree about the "thinking" comment susymac. If you hadn't commented I was going to do so! x

I quite agree with the others Mandy. It's time to get some action from your doctor. Ask him to do T3, T4, antibodies, B12, D, ferrtinin, folates and intracellular magnesium too. See this page: thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/diagno...

If you're constantly thirsty it would be worth asking for your blood sugar to be measured too, just in case you are mildly diabetic. It's all part of your endocrine system.

A TSH of 5.2 is way too high, especially if you are on thyroid meds. You are looking for your TSH to be below 1. I can only tell you my experience. I strongly syspect my hypo is secondary not primary and last year my TSH reached the heady heights of 5.6. I was bed bound, barely able to stand and every inch of me was shaking. I'm due for a retest tomorrow - but last time my TSH was measured it was 0.2. I'm feeling much better.

Stand your ground. If your doctor still refuses to help you, buy Dr P's book "your thyroid and how to keep it healthy". There are things you can buy online and take to help yourself. It's what I do, under Dr P's guidance.

borderline diabetic on my last blood tests but not a worry. I think if it wasnt for me having young kids to get to school id be in bed all day as im not hurting then. Im gonna keep fighting my dr until i get what i want and if need be ill change dr's i cant go on like this some days i feel like im about to die. Ill have a look for the book but bit strapped on funds for a bit so hopefully can get second hand copy fairly cheap

To be polite, I think you would have better treatment if you saw a Vet.

I think a change of GP is due but I would advise you get a copy of an article by Dr Toft in Pulse Online and email louise.warvill@thyroiduk.org. Highlight question 6 and leave the whole copy for your GP to read and absorb before your next appointment. Also ask as well for all the tests advised above if you haven't had them. Also tell your GP that we can develop diabetes if under-treated and also other diseases .Dr Toft recommends a TSH below 1 but you usually find a level which suits you.

i have to agree with you i probably would get better treatment from a vet. Ive just brought the book understanding thyroid disorders so hopefully will be here in a few days. I did get told after my last blood test i was borderline diabetic but not to worry as ill get another test in a years time. Ill ask for the works on the next blood test including blood sugars and ill keep asking until i get them done i think i may well have to change drs and hope and pray i get a better one

I hope you get a good one as well. There are some about. You could always post a question and your location and ask for someone to private message you if they have a decent GP or Endocrinologist.
