Right away. What medication are you on, are you taking supplements?

Hi Sue 004

Have you been diagnosed with hypothyroidism, your TSH is high which is a sign that you are. Are you taking levothyroxine ?

coetzeegisela profile image
coetzeegisela

Prescribed Thyroxine, Eltroxine? Generics, I believe - for non-acute hypothyroidism. For non-severe cases, organic kelp daily as a daily supplement is good.

Kelp should be used carefully as it can aggravate some forms of hypothyroidism, particularly autoimmune thyroid conditions. It can also inhibit conversion of t4 to t3 if iodine levels are already good. It should be built up slowly to avoid reactions etc.

As Jan4363 says, you need to get help straight away.

Are you on thyroid medication? If so, what is it and what dose are you taking? Going by your results you may need to start on a dose of thyroxine higher than the usual 50mcg starting dose. Some specialists feel that starting on a higher dose is absolutely fine and should be considered where hypothyroidism is more severe.

I hope you get some help soon!

Sue,

Did you do anything after your previous post about 13 days ago?

You really need to do something - get to see a medic straight away.

Are you on your own? Is there someone around who can help?

I didn't realise she'd already posted! Gosh! I hope she's ok.

I've just read her previous post and, in my non-medic capacity, feel she is being mistreated :(

I think A&E may be the answer in this case...

Sue,

Would you be able to get some help in going to A&E?

Or would you prefer to call for help by phone? I'd consider 111 but if that doesn't get you anywhere don't hesitate to use 999.

I really do think that is what you need to do. With you as bad as you are you absolutely MUST let someone know.

I completely agree. 111 have been good, in my experience. You might get asked a few seemingly unnecessary questions initially but after that they get a medically trained person on the line to talk to you and they decide if a doctor needs to call you or if you should go to A&E.

If you don't feel you can deal with that, please call a friend who can come round and do that for you or take you to A&E.

Please don't stay on your own. You never know, the doctor you end up seeing my be able to sort this out for you.

Sue,

At least those who have read your question are very concerned for you. But we have absolutely no way of knowing what has happened, where you are, or anything else unless you tell us.

Please, if you are still on-line (or next time you connect here) let us know.

Sue you really need to go to A&E and tell them you had RAI and you are severely hypothyroid with levels like that.

Like you, after RAI treatment, I had that out of body experience. I had no follow up care and suffered myxedema coma. Fortunately my husband realised when he couldn't wake me and I got treatment in the nick of time.

Call an ambulance if you are unable to talk with out of hours service.

I support everyone's reply, editfmrt and others are so right, if you cannot walk much/get out of bed please call 111/999 do not feel worried doing so please, the health professionals do know who calls for silly things and who don't and yours is NOT a silly reason, it CAN get better but you need to take this little small first step xxx

also you were started on 25mcg of T4 a couple of weeks ago, this 'sometimes' can be too little for 'some' people (not everyone)and actually AGGRAVATE (more than help) the situation, you may need a higher dose straight away, however please only take a higher dose after being checked by a doctor, so go to A&E (well, call 111/999) get checked and ONLY THEN evaluate a higher dose, ask the docs about it x

I am so worried for Sue. Does anyone know anything that could give us a clue to help he, eg. which part of the country she is in. We know she has had RAI in May, so that could help to trace her. Hate to be alarmist but I am concerned she is in a coma at home alone. Feel so helpless.

editfmrt in reply to Hennerton

Feel just the same as you Hennerton. Her post really struck a chord and I so wish there was a way we could make contact with her.

I thought admin knows which part of the country we are in. Then I would try hospitals for someone called Sue, who had RAI in May. I suppose they would not tell me but someone should be able to help. Perhaps try doctor's practices. Might hit on the right one straight away. I feel a bit desperate for her and willing to spend time trying to find her.

Hennerton, we are as worried as everybody else about her, but we do not know which part of the country she lives in as she's not placed this on her profile....HealthUnlocked would not be able to know either, not unless they went through the police etc who might find out via her IP address but I don't think Health Unlocked would get the police onto her either, Louise Warvill will get in touch with them though and let them though (I do think it's a lost battle due to data protections acts ect but we can ask)

Reading a post from 8 months ago, she is a deputy head working in a school. Don't know if that helps any.

It is so worrying for us all, not knowing if she is ok or not! The thought of her on her own and not being able to get to a phone is so distressing. I hope she is ok and will soon let us know.

Hi Sue

I read your earlier posts too, and like everyone else here I am worried about you and hope you are getting help. Please come back and tell us how you are doing. Please don't worry about bothering the doctor - from your tsh level alone we can all tell you need urgent medical attention. If your GP doesn't grasp the situation try another doctor in the practice. If you haven't got a phone perhaps you could get a neighbour to call the doctor. Get a same day appointment - if the receptionist asks if it's urgent, say YES. Take a friend or relative (or neighbour even) if you can. Maybe get them to have a look at this thread? Good luck.

Just want to add two things.

I had the most unbelievably dreadful headaches before I was diagnosed and started on medication.

The second thing is I've only just joined and it is heartwarming to see the support offered here. You are all brilliant.

I will contact HU - but they have quite strict privacy policies in place.

had rai in May, saw doc 2 weeks ago for blood tests as feeling terrible, and he sent me same day to have immediate ecg. This showed low voltage uptake, which he syas means I cant take 200 levo as he would like, but have to start at 25 and work my way up. Trouble is I now feel sick all day, sleep for England and feel more mentally unstable than ever!!

sue004 profile image

You have made me feel a bit better as you don't seem to think I'm completely nuts, thank you so much.

editfmrt in reply to sue004

Thank goodness for that. Have been really worried about you. You are NOT being a fuss pot or being a nuisance.

I too just wanted to go to sleep and never wake up and had an out of body experience like you describe. I misinterpreted their casual and downright negligent attitude to mean this condition was a piece of cake to treat and therefore I must have either been a great big wimp or a crack pot to be so dreadfully ill.

This just is not the case at all. Basically, the majority, including endocrinologists are ignorant and untrained to recognise or even acknowledge what impact this can have on mind body and soul.

It comes as a very nasty shock, especially to those who have a deep seated belief that 'the medical profession 'knows best' to find out this is far from the truth. That's why there are so many people on sites like this fighting for even basic treatment.

When you are truly on the mend you will know how ill you really have been.

If you have been hyper for a while, going hypo is even more of a shock to the system especially as it can happen so quickly and dramatically after RAI.

Please don't let them fob you off. Xx
