I have been told that it supports the adrenals and that transdermal is the best method of use.

Hi, magnesium's a major nutrient needed for the Kreb's Cycle (Citric Acid Cycle). Which is where energy is made in the mitochondria in every cell of the body. If the Krebs Cycle has the correct levels of nutrition to 'spin', it will help support the thyroid and adrenals to work synergistically together to make energy.

The thyroid and adrenals also need some magnesium to work properly. T3 thyroid hormone instructs the Krebs (Citric Acid) Cycle to spin optimally. So you see where they're all intrinsically linked? All support each other. It's important I feel to treat and support all.

Magnesium citrate is a good type of magnesium to take orally, as this is taken straight into the Kreb's (Citric Acid) cycle. I've personally found magnesium in spray form that you apply and rub into the skin a good way to also get magnesium levels up. Another method is having a nice relaxing 'Epsom Salt' bath regularly. Put a cup of Epsom salts into the bath and bathe for at least 20 minutes to allow for absorption.

Hope this helps :-)

Many thanks - I am happy to take vits and mins but want to make sure I am doing the right thing. I know if you have low kidney function it is not a good idea.

Hi I am going to answer this differently, to maintain the magnesium in range, a specific test with a small range is imperative. In food no problem what ever. However, it is an electrolyte and strongly effects the others, mainly, Potassium ( a great deal), sodium and calcium. These are vital to be in range and Potassium not too high., either, not just for the kidneys but more importantly for the heart. he electrics of the heart are very complicated. I have to take magnesium but because of that, have weekly blood tests and also U`s and E`s done, especially for the potassium.I am more complicated, but electroloytes can suddenly effect any one at what ever age, certainly can cause uneven rhythms etc..some people use Epsom salts in the bath, this also, of course, is fine.

Best wishes,

Jackie

Dr Myhill has some good info..... drmyhill.co.uk/wiki/Magnesi...

Epsom salt baths are great as they leave the skin really smooth, but it uses a LOT, and being disabled, a bath is quite a chllenge for me!

I use Magnesium citrate, (cheap - eBay!) made into a solution (also knowns as "magnesium oil") as per her recipe and apply transdermally, although not as often as her suggestion of daily, as I am fine on a couple of times a week, if you want to use a lot, if you suspect a genuine real low status, then testing would seem a good idea. It's a bit sticky, but cheap and easy.
