Soya has several levels of interaction with thyroid.

o... It interferes with absorption of levothyroxine from the gut.

o... Some soya can be heavily iodine contaminated.

o... Soya can interrupt the enterohepatic cycle of thyroid hormone processing.

o... Soya can impair thyroid peroxidase activity.

It is, therefore, capable of affecting anyone's thyroid status. It is also very difficult to be sure of its impact in any individual.

It is often suggested that fermented soya products such as soy sauce (traditionally fermented) might not have much impact but I would be wary of this - it might not be true!

Basically soya beans are full of hormones which is not good when you are taking any sort of hormone replacement. Have you tried rice milk? It may be an alternative.

I have a problem with cows milk so started drinking soya milk. I'd mix it with protein powders/powdered shake mixes, or have soya lattes, even at home.

At first all was ok and I especially loved the lattes, but over time I started to feel very unwell almost immediately after drinking soya....I would get stomach cramps, feel bone weary (crash) and start to get really hot and sweaty and start to feel shaky. As soon as I realized the link I stopped drinking the stuff.

I did read about its toxicity if not fermented. The Japanese use a lot of soya products but it is always fermented and they (apparently) have no problems digesting soya.

Almond milk is lovely.

I've just found an even better one 3-Omega-6 Dairy Free Flax drink which tastes delicious and wont curdle when used in coffee. Also very versatile as a cookery ingredient.

Have you tried oat milk and cream? Oats are very good for you.
