of most things ? I have now been like this for the last few weeks and starting to feel pretty fed up with myself and lack of energy / tiredness.
Hi could anyone please tell me if taking to muc... - Thyroid UK
Hi could anyone please tell me if taking to much tyroxine could be making me feel extremly tired, lethargic, and with a general disinterest
Hi there, those symptoms sound more like too little thyroxine. How much are you on and for how long. Do you have your thyroid blood test results you can post, with reference ranges, it will give everyone a better idea of what is going on.
hi jan, Thanks for your reply ive been taking 175mg for the last 3/4 months I havent got my blood test results. not sure my GP will be keen on me asking for test results but recon it would be beneficial to be able to post results on here.
If you tell your GP you are not feeling so well and to exclude it's not due to your thyroid gland, could you please have a blood test. He may only ask for TSH but if you haven't already had a Vitamin B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate request these as deficiences can affect your health/uptake of thyroxine.
We are entitled to all our blood tests, just say you are keeping records.
I have always felt quite inhibited about asking for results and of course doctors never offer these to you. When given verbally, I have nearly always forgotten what they said before I get out of the surgery -brain fog and all that. However, pluck up the courage and ask, we are entitled to see them and really don't have to give an explanation.
Has your 175mcg been increased to this amount over the last 3/4 months and what were you on before and for how long. When were you first diagnosed as hypothyroid?
As you may know there are other things that can stop the thyroxine from working effectively, such as vitamin deficiencies. Are you on any supplements or had things like, ferritin, iron, vit B12, D3 checked?.
Whilst I felt like this and thought I was under-dosed on 112.5 of levo, the doctors kept saying I needed to reduce - felt illogical but hard to argue. 4 days ago they changed me from 112.5 levo to a different tablet which is 100 T4 and 25 T3 and the first couple of days were awful, but I think (cross fingers) today I do feel a bit better! The problem is that so many of the symptoms are the same for hypo and for hyper.
good luck
Hi again, ive been hypo for about 10 years and seeing dr skinner however my gp was very against this dose and advised i only needed 75mg!! I reduced down to 100 before xmas2012 but then gradually increased dose back up by about april. I do take supplements but have never had tests for defficences in any of them. Thank you once again for your help and advice. x
Most definitely YES, being on too high a dose can make you feel like that.
I had extreme fatigue, severe balance problems and had to battle to get through every day, I was falling asleep whenever I sat down. I was taking 112.5mcg Levo and TSH was 0.09.
I reduced my dose about 10 weeks ago following the advice from my Endo, I have no working thyroid but doing just fine on 100mcg Levo. All symptoms have gone 100%.
Most people seem to assume that the symptoms are because you need more Levo and I think ( my personal opinion )
that is why so many people feel so poorly, they are taking too much.
I only started to feel better when my levo was raised to 125mcg. Before that I had all the symptoms you are describing. I didn't want to see anyone, depressed, exhausted but could'nt sleep, heart palps. When I reached 125mcg I began to feel better. Fortunately I changed to Armour and I'm a normal functioning human being now! Get your blood test results if these symptoms are the same as hyper you need to know so you can adjust accordingly. Have you had your adrenals checked? Raising a dose of thyroid hormone can reveal if you are having adrenal fatigue if you don't respond well to the raise in dose. xx
If you lower the dose and don't feel good on that dose too it could be that.
Take your temperature first thing in the morning before you get out of bed.. every morning... if it's low 96-97 then your medication is not working - doesn't answer if you're taking too much or too little but does prove that you're still hypo
If your temperature is high 99 or above then you've either got a fever, are ovulating, or... you are taking too much medication and you're hyper
So... your symptoms could be because you're not taking enough.. it's not working or you're taking too much
Start with a temperature test and see what you get... Good luck
PS I never felt well on Levothyroxine, I spent 6 months getting worse and worse... I went to a T3 T4 mixture and got some mojo back but had side effects.. turns out I was lactose intolerant and both Levo and Lio contain lactose fillers.. I am now on Armour and feel great... you'll get there...
