The skin is peeling in patches on my hands quite a lot recently. I'm also sweating quite a lot more than usual (although it is summer).

Anybody think that this is cause for concern? Thanks in advance. Ian

It could be due to warmer weather, in that your levothyroxine may need to be reduced slightly. If you have any worries ask your GP to do a thyroid gland blood test, to ensure you are not taking too much and post the results on a new question, complete with the ranges before your GP decides to reduce your dose which may not be necessary if only due to warm weather.

Reduced? That's interesting. Using levi for a year so still new to this.

Thanks. Ian x

It's only a guess as sweating is usually a hyperthyroid problem. Also, get him to check your peeling skin. Hypo usually get dry skin. GP may not know very much but you could ask to be referred to an Endocrinologist.

truth, is it the palm of your hands? My friend had this and it was a type of psoriasis......but still may be related to the thyroid. Almost everything is:)

Hi Heloise. No it's not psoriasis. It's on the joints and knuckles of my left hand only. Not life threatening but a little strange. Thanks for responding.

Apart from feeling lousy and having no energy, peeling skin is one the more obvious symptoms I get when I'm hypo, but if it's new I'd get it checked out.

Thank for responding Janericat.

Hi Truth, i think a lot of sweating is from heat intollerance or low thyroxine. One of the ways you could tell is if you have a 25mcg to spare see if it stops the sweating. Night sweats have been a huge problem for me, but an extra 25mcg stops it within 2 hours.

Re the skin peeling, are your hands extra dry anyway from hypo? Do you wash them a lot? I get peeling knuckles and peeling around the bridge of my nose when i'm too low. E45 is a good bland cream that helps this. Make sure you put some on at night.

When i'm low even my platinum rings burn my skin, then it peels. When i'm well topped up it's fine.

It's always useful to have a bit of spare Levo around to experiment!

Hi Helcaster. Thanks for responding. I'll try a little extra Levo. Ian x

Ahh Thyroid hands. Mine started this way- rough thickened skin on knuckles and then palms & fingers developed sore rough red patches with continued deterioration -upped my thyroxine which cured it. This past week after 10 months I am back to the same problem so another increase is in order. by the way no prescribed creams ever cleared it- only provided much needed moisture.
