I am not sure if the following will be helpful. Excerpt

Why did I feel lousy on NDT? If upon starting desiccated thyroid or raising it, you have very strange symptoms, including anxiety, insomnia, shakiness, it’s a strong sign that you may have either an adrenal problem or inadequate levels of iron, which are revealed with NDT. See this video. Or, if you felt great when you started NDT, only to see it go away and hypo symptoms return, you probably failed to understand that you needed to raise it! thank you for your reply- I have the book STTM - I have HIGH night time cortisol- which is being lowered with amytriptaline 10mg at night. I take a really good all round excellent suppliment with Selenium/b vitamils/d/zinc/iron etc but have not looked at L-tyrosine. My Iron levels are OK now and I have been treated with Nutri Adrenalmax etc by Dr C since April. I have just emailed him to ask if I need to introduce a half grain in the afternoon.

I felt so much worse on days 5-8 after any increase in my Armour with symptoms like yours plus migraine and nausea. These improved once I reached about 2&1/2 grains but I had also managed to increase my B12 levels around that time and started taking my first dose of Armour about 5am as others on this site had said that can help adrenal problems. I have to make very small changes in dose as any change either up or down seems to affect me in this way.

Hi Sandra -Did you check what dose of Armour you should be on to get the equivalent of the 100mcg of levothyroxine?. It's is ages since I took Armour but am sure 1 grain sounds rather low. It could that you body is beginning to feel the effects of a lower dose of thyroid med.Check with. ' Stop the thyroid madness ' website they have a whole section on switching. over.

Hope this helps. x

I have had huge problems and am very sensitive. I had to increase by 1/4 grain every 2 weeks then have a break after each 1 grain increase for 4-6 weeks before I could start increasing again. I started from nothing though as I had been taken off Levo & left with nothing for 10 weeks even though I have had a total thyroidectomy! I managed to increase to 3&3/4 grains over a year but have had to reduce again as have had a few problems. I have the symptoms you describe when my levels are both too high and too low. As people have mentioned I found 'Stop the Thyroid Madness very helpful. The symptoms scared me at first but I generally felt so ill it was hard to tell but I noticed a pattern when certain things would be much worse from days 5-8 after an increase in dose.
